Structure and Objectives

The charity is governed by a constitution that was revised and adopted on 27th June 2016. The main object of the charity is to provide and maintain a village hall for the use of the villages of the Yealands and surrounding local neighbourhoods.

The committee, which meets bi- monthly, has complied with its duties and has due regard to Public Benefit. We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office and we comply with General Data Protection Regulation.

Activities

The Village Hall is available for use by our local communities and provides the opportunity for a diverse range of groups and individuals to use its facilities.

It is regularly used by groups which include - 1st Warton Scouts, Yealand Church of England Primary School, Coffee Stop, Yoga classes, Pilates classes, Keep Fit, Peace Dancers, the Yealands Parish Council, Yealand Women’s Institute, Indoor Bowling, Tethero Taiko and the Lancs and Lakes Guild of Spinners, Weavers and Dyers.

The hall is used by local residents for parties, lectures and talks, training sessions, music practice and fundraising.

Achievements

Another busy year ensuring the hall is a safe, welcoming and inviting asset. We encourage and support our regular user groups as well as welcoming new groups or individuals using the hall for one off activities.

We focus on providing a community resource for Yealand residents, their friends and family responding to requests and suggestions from local people.

From August 2024 - August 2025 the committee planned and hosted the following events:

November - Christmas Social. A family event with a bar, Father Christmas, fish and chips and a pop-up shop. Any surplus funds went towards the fundraising project to,resurface the outdoor games area.

December - Tractor Trundle. An annual event that now comes through the Yealands. Fantastic tractors decorated for Christmas. A very wet evening so the hall came in very useful. December- Annual Christmas Quiz. A popular event with a light supper where everyone tries to win a much coveted prize - even the booby prize!

January- New Year’s Day Brunch. Another well supported event where people and their dogs are welcome for breakfast rolls and a cuppa.

January- Burns Night. Our annual Knees Up. This year it was held on Burns night with a traditional haggis supper and Scottish dancing.

April - Spring Quiz. A second quiz as they are so popular.

July - End of Term Gathering. This year we had a wood fired outdoor pizza wagon offering a range of pizzas along with a bar.

We have continued to work in partnership with a range of organisations including Yealand Primary School, the Yealands Parish Council, B4RN, the New Inn pub, St John’s Church and a wide range of voluntary and community groups. We are a member of Lancaster District Council for Voluntary Service and benefit from their support with training, events and policy development.

Yealand Primary School children always start the Christmas season off with their Carol singing at our weekly Coffee Stop and a couple of weeks later with a dance show. Great to watch.

We have actively supported the group set up to refurbish the Multi Use Games Area adjacent to the hall car park. This has gone well with a raffle held supported by our committee and local residents. A Pickle Ball group has been set up and has been enjoying matches.

Our Allotment outreach project, managed in partnership with the Parish Council, has developed with more people becoming involved. There are currently 6 allotments in use with space for 2 large or 4 smaller allotments.

We would like to thank everyone who has helped in any way with our community events. More are planned for our next financial year. A huge amount of work goes into putting on events which enable people to get together and enjoy different activities, focus on the reduction of loneliness and improving health and wellbeing.

Marketing

Our Village Hall has its own website www.yealandvillagehall as well as a Facebook page. We actively use and contribute to the local newsletter- Yealand Village News as well as the Yealand Support Group WhatsApp and local Facebook group “Yealand Gossip”.

Financial Review

The charity had an opening balance of £32,801.27 and a closing balance of £7,371.38 along with £30,000 in an instant access account.

Most of our income comes from donations for use of the hall, income from solar panels, B4RN, donations and fundraising.

We have changed our Bank Account to Lloyds. We now have a current and instant access account which generates a modest income. On line banking continued to work well, with our treasurer responsible for setting up payments which are then authorised electronically by one of the two nominated trustees in line with our financial procedures. Quarterly accounts are presented to trustees.

Reserves

The committee has agreed a prudent reserve budget that enables the hall to be run for two years should all regular sources of income cease. This amounts to £15,000. In addition £10,000 has been designated to ensure the ongoing maintenance and renewal of the fabric of the building and outside areas. During the year we replaced the fluorescent tube lighting with LED strip, lights. Ongoing maintenance and health and safety issues are discussed at every meeting to ensure the hall is well looked after and is a safe and welcoming place for users.

Future Plans

Committee members welcome suggestions and ideas for community events at the village hall. Our plans include: Cine club in partnership with Cine North Cheese & wine tasting evening Continuing to support the Yealand Outdoor Games Area Continuing to support the Allotment project offering produce and plant swaps at the hall Working with Sustainable Warton and Silverdale. A group that covers the Yealands as well as Warton and focuses on a number of sustainability issues including the establishment of a Repair Cafe Setting up an introductory session with Lancashire Adult Learning

Final Thanks

A huge thank you to everyone on our committee. Our trustees give freely of their time to ensure the hall is well maintained, efficiently run, financially secure and that we can offer a range of activities.

Thank you to all our volunteers who have assisted at events, fundraising, maintaining the outside area and in many other ways.

Thank you to everyone from our three villages who use the hall so well.

Thank you to all those organisations and groups who use the hall and with whom we work so well in partnership.

We wouldn’t have such a busy and amazing hall without your support.
