Section D Achievements and performance
Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year
----- End of picture text -----

Sefton Sea Cadets have been awarded funding for a Battle of Atlantic historical memorial based at our Field Lane unit. The BOA fund very kindly awarded Sefton Sea Cadets £60k to refurbish the rigging loft into 2 permanent classrooms for Engineering and Seamanship lessons. The refurbished rooms will be a lasting memorial to the Battle of the Atlantic, displaying photographs and other commemorative items. Operational Overview As at the end of the year we are currently actively supporting 64 young people Sefton Unit ranging from 10-18 years. Cadets are supported by over 40 qualified volunteer instructors and trustees, who each donate approximately 10-20 hours per week. ; Throughout the year the operational part of the charity has out done itself to achieve more than ever before. The Cadets and Instructors have succeeded by adding another Burgee award to the long history of excellence awards held by Sefton. In this year our volunteers donated over £250,000 worth of their time to help fulfil our mission of “giving young people the best head start in life”. This has been further helped by many other parents and supporters from our community who have given countless hours to benefit the Cadets of Sefton. Of particular note in the 2024/2025 period, the Royal Marine Cadets were selected to be one of six teams competing in their national competition - The Gibraltar Cup. This was achieved alongside delivering their normal high level of training and also increasing their total number of Cadets and Volunteers. Key Achievements Leadership Development - We witnessed substantial growth in our cadet leadership skills. Through various senior cadet development and practical exercises, our aspirant senior cadets displayed an exceptional aptitude for leading their peers both on and off the water. Community Engagement - Sefton remained deeply involved in our local community. Our cadet cadets
actively participated in several community service initiatives, demonstrating their commitment to giving
back and fostering positive relationships within Sefton.
Competitive Success - Our cadets made us proud by achieving commendable results in District, Area and
National Sea Cadets competitions.
Afloat Proficiency - With an emphasis on waterborne activities, our cadets exhibited remarkable progress
in sailing. They demonstrated a sound understanding of navigation, seamanship and safety protocols,
reflecting their dedication to mastering essential maritime skills. The Cadets have also started taking part
in regional sailing races, competing against other local groups and Cadet Forces.
Future Plans
We have continued to develop our infrastructure and in the next year will finalise the new Battle of Atlantic
facility, with specialist facilities for maritime training, and continue the rolling renovation of other parts of
the Field Lane facility. These renovations will continue to be performed by the Cadets where possible,
teaching valuable life skills in the process and growing a sense of pride and ownership in them.
Through the next year we will shift to longer term strategies including finalising plans for our new buildings
at Field Lane, and beginning the large scale fundraising effort to finance the new buildings. This will be
conducted alongside identifying gaps in training equipment and seeking fundraising to support new
equipment such as rowing and sailing boats, adventure training equipment and the ability to transport
them to any training venue.
