Achievements and performance
Over the period 1 December 2023 to 31 March 2025 Gladstone Terrace Centre for Young People has changed significantly. We started the year with half of the building just becoming suitable for use after extensive renovations. The legal status of the building remains the same, No11 is owned by Gladstone Terrace Centre for Young People trust, No12 is owned by Gateshead Council and leased to GTCfYP for the period of 35 years. No rent is paid, the rent ‘in lieu’ is the benefit GTCfYP adds to the lives of young people in Gateshead.
We changed the name of the trust managing the building from BBC House to Gladstone Terrace Centre for Young People and then went through the process of bringing all legal entities, such as bank accounts, charity commission and land registry into the same legal name.
We started raising funds to deliver our unique youth work and counselling to children and young people during 2023 and in late 2023/early 2024 we began to deliver these services. Progressing through the following year and we are now almost at capacity.
We now rent out most rooms in No11 and No12 on a weekly basis and the rental income covers our costs, which was the aim. We endeavour to keep rental costs low so small charities and organisations can use our building.
Financial review
The Charity received a gross income during the period of £80,852 (2023: £94,090)
Principal funding sources in 2023/25 came from grants for our youth services and the remainder is rent from the organisations renting space. The c harity is working on a fundraising strategy in place and will never apply for funding that does not meet the direct needs of the Young People in Gateshead.
Reserves Policy
The Board of Trustees have created a policy on reserves . We will endeavor to save 5 – 10% of the rental income into reserves until we have six months running costs.
Risk Review
The Board of Trustees have examined the major risks the organisation face and confirm that systems have been established to enable regular reports to be produced so that the necessary steps would be taken to minimise any significant risk.
Plans for future periods.
Gladstone Terrace Centre for Young People will continue to offer space to offer learning opportunities and support services to young people, the work being informed by on-going evaluation of the services offered, involving both participants and workers, and in consultation with the Board of Trustees.

Gladstone Terrace Centre for Young People
Trustees' Annual Report
Period ended 31 March 2025
To evolve and develop the building with the changing needs and issues that face young people, to be responsive to those needs and develop new areas for working. - To continue to work with and train young volunteers, to enhance volunteers self - confidence and self belief.
We will continue to apply for Charity and Statutory Funding as it becomes available. To continually search for new funding opportunities. To develop further training opportunities for young people. That would also bring into the Project some core funding.
We are moving forward and are very positive and excited about the future of Gladstone Terrace Centre for Young People.

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES
For the Period ended 31 March 2025
I report on the financial statements of Gladstone Terrace Centre for Young People for the Period ended 31 March 2025, which are set out on pages 8 to 15.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 ("the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
Having satisfied myself that the charity is not subject to audit under company law and is eligible for independent examination, it is my responsibility to:
-
examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act,
-
to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act), and
-
to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner's statement
My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent examiner's statement
In connection with my examination, no material matters have come to my attention which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:
-
the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or
-
the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or
-
the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a "true and fair" view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
