The trustees present their report and the unaudited financial statements of the charity for the year ended 30 November 2023.

Our aims and objectives

The overall aim of Gladstone Terrace Centre for Young People as set out in its Constitution is to

(1) TO PRESERVE AND PROVIDE FOR THE PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH OF YOUNG PEOPLE AND THEIR FAMILIES LIVING IN THE BOROUGH OF GATESHEAD AND SURROUNDING AREAS BY PROVIDING ADVICE, INFORMATION AND SUPPORT, WITHOUT DISTINCTION OF SEX, SEXUALITY, DISABILITY, RACE OR POLITICAL, RELIGIOUS OR OTHER OPINIONS, IN A COMMON EFFORT TO ADVANCE EDUCATION AND TO PROVIDE FACILITIES IN THE INTERESTS OF SOCIAL WELFARE;

(2) TO MANAGE AND MAINTAIN A CENTRE FOR ACTIVITIES PROMOTED BY THE CHARITY IN FURTHERANCE OF THE ABOVE OBJECTS.

Identity and Distinctiveness

 To be at the forefront of engaging with the young people to advance their education and social transformation by providing space for engagement opportunities through group work that are relevant to their needs and space for young people to explore their identity and emotional wellbeing.

 To ensure that young people are given correct information, guidance and support, this in turn enables them to make informed choices for themselves.

 To raise aspiration and achievement and to enable young people to challenge, question and evaluate; encouraging them to play a full part in a changing society.

 To deliver a person centred way meaning that the young person is at the core of the support offered.

 To work with young p e o p l e t o support and encourage them to develop resilience, problem solving and skills to help them physically and emotionally.

 To offer a service focused on engagement in decision making to improve the experience of young people in GTCfYP.

Helping to break the longer-term intergenerational cycle of poor outcomes for
young people.
Benefits in other areas of/contributes to public policy, for example in
enhancing health and wellbeing, reducing dependency on public services, supporting families and up skilling volunteers.
Transforms the lives of individuals which in turn contribute to the development
of cohesive and resilient communities.
Supports the regions need to up skill young people and address issues of
social deprivation, poverty and economic inactivity.

How we measure the Benefit we provide

Gladstone Terrace Centre for Young people measures the impact of its work in several ways, primarily using data which is measured against internal performance indicators and where possible against external benchmarks.

Achievements and performance

Over the year 1 December 2022 to 30 November 2023 Gladstone Terrace Centre for Young People has changed significantly. We started the year with half of the building practically derelict. After negotiating the surrender of the existing lease to Gateshead Council we took back control of the No11 side of the building (No12 side is covered by a 35 year lease from Gateshead Council TO BBC House).

We also changed the name of the trust managing the building from BBC House to Gladstone Terrace Centre for Young People and are currently in the process of bringing all legal entities, such as bank accounts, charity commission and land registry into the same legal name.

We managed to raise almost £80,000 from the NHS to bring No11 up to safety standards so we could start using that side of the building.

This work took much of 2023 but by autumn 2023 we were in a position to start renting out space to local groups including Beth Jacobs Girls School, Children North East and NEDES.

Financial review

The Charity received a gross income during the year of £94090.26

Principal funding sources in 2022/23 come from the NHS and the remainder is rent from the organisations renting space. The c harity is working on a fundraising strategy in place and will never apply for funding that does not meet the direct needs of the Young People in Gateshead.

Reserves Policy

The Board of Trustees have not have not created a policy on reserves . This is a priority for the next year.

Risk Review

The Board of Trustees have examined the major risks the organisation face and confirm that systems have been established to enable regular reports to be produced so that the necessary steps would be taken to minimise any significant risk.

Plans for future periods.

Gladstone Terrace Centre for Young People will continue to offer space to offer learning opportunities and support services to young people, the work being informed by on-going evaluation of the services offered, involving both participants and workers, and in consultation with the Board of Trustees.

To evolve and develop the building with the changing needs and issues that face young people, to be responsive to those needs and develop new areas for working. - To continue to work with and train young volunteers, to enhance volunteers self - confidence and self belief.

We will continue to apply for Charity and Statutory Funding as it becomes available. To continually search for new funding opportunities. To develop further training opportunities for young people. That would also bring into the Project some core funding.

We are moving forward and are very positive and excited about the future of Gladstone Terrace Centre for Young People.

Structure, governance and management

Governing Document

GTCfYP (520800) was originally established as a registered Charity 1964 under the name of BBC House Boys Club. In 2022 the new Board of Trustees applied to change the name to Gladstone Terrace Centre for Young People to better fit the work carried out in the building and make it fit for purpose.

Organisational Structure

Gladstone Terrace Centre for Young People is a registered charity with a Board of Trustees which consists of three individuals who are connected to the main tenants of the building.

Public Benefit

As a registered charity GTCfYP is committed to demonstrating the benefits that it's work provides for individuals, communities and the wider public. This statement sets out the aims, mission and strategic objectives of GTCfYP outlines the beneficiaries it serves and the impact and benefits of the personal and social development learning opportunities it provides for young people in Gateshead.

Recruitment, Induction and Training of Board of Trustees

Recruitment and Appointment of the Board of Trustees Each year at the Annual General Meeting all members of the Board stand down and a new Board is elected. The organisation has a core group of individuals who have a range of valuable skills and experience to bring to the organisation.

General information

The charity is a registered charity in England and Wales. The address of the registered office is 11/12 Gladstone Terrace, Gateshead, NE8 4DY.

Going concern

There are no material uncertainties about the charity’s ability to continue.

Fund accounting

Unrestricted funds are available for use at the discretion of the trustees to further any of the charity's purposes.

Designated funds are unrestricted funds earmarked by the trustees for future projects or commitments.

Restricted funds are subjected to restrictions on their expenditure declared by the donor or through the terms of an appeal, almost all GTCfYP income is in the form of rental.

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES

For the year ended 30 November 2023

I report on the financial statements of Gladstone Terrace Centre for Young People for the year ended 30 November 2023, which are set out on pages 7 to 13.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 ("the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed.

Having satisfied myself that the charity is not subject to audit under company law and is eligible for independent examination, it is my responsibility to:

examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act,
to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act), and
to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of independent examiner's statement

My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

Independent examiner's statement

In connection with my examination, no material matters have come to my attention which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or
the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or
the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a "true and fair" view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

1 Accounting Policies

The principal accounting policies adopted, judgements and key sources of estimation uncertainty in the preparation of the financial statements are as follows:

2 Basis of accounting

2.1 Basis of preparation

The accounts have been prepared on the receipts and payments basis. An audit is not required by the charity's constitution and has not been requested by the trustees.

The accounts have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland.

Gladstone Terrace Centre for Young People meets the definition of a public benefit entity under FRS 102.

2.2 Preparation of the accounts on a going concern basis

The charity reported total unrestricted funds at the year end of £9,465 and has already secured a significant amount of funding for the current year. The trustees are of the view that the immediate future of the charity for the next 12 to 18 months is secure and that on this basis the charity is a going concern.

3 Receipts

3.1 Recognition of receipts

Receipts are recognised when the charity has received the resources, any performance conditions attached to the item(s) of receipt have been met.

3.2 Offsetting

There has been no offsetting of receipts and payments, unless required or permitted by SORP.

3.3 Grants and donations

Receipts from government and other grants, whether ‘capital’ grants or ‘revenue’ grants, is recognised when the charity has received the funds, any performance conditions attached to the grants have been met.

3.4 Volunteer help

The value of volunteer help received is not included in the accounts but is described in the trustees' annual report.

3.5 Interest receivable

Interest on funds held on deposit is included when received.

3.6 Income from membership subscriptions

Membership subscriptions received in the nature of a gift are recognised in donations and legacies.

Membership subscriptions which gives a member the right to buy services or other benefits are recognised as a receipt earned from the provision of goods and services as a receipt from charitable activities.

3.7 Investment gains and losses

This includes any realised or unrealised gains or losses on the sale of investments.

3.8 Fund accounting

Unrestricted funds are available to spend on activities that further any of the purposes of the charity. Designated funds are unrestricted funds of the charity which the trustees have decided at their discretion to set aside to use for a specific purpose. Restricted funds are donations which the donor has specified are to be solely used for particular areas of the charity's work or for specific projects being undertaken by the charity.

4 Expenditure and liabilities

4.1 Liability recognition

Liabilities are recognised when it is more likely than not that there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to pay out resources and the amount of the obligation can be measured with reasonable certainty.

4.2 Charitable activities

Payments on charitable activities includes the costs of general charitable purposes and other activities undertaken to further the purposes of the charity and their associated support costs.

4.3 Governance and support costs

Support costs have been allocated between governance cost and other support. Governance costs comprise all costs involving public accountability of the charity and its compliance with regulation and good practice.

Support costs are those functions that assist the work of the charity but do not directly undertake charitable activities. Support costs include central functions and have been allocated to activity cost categories on a basis consistent with the use of resources.

4.4 Irrecoverable VAT

Irrecoverable VAT is charged as a cost against the activity for which the payment was incurred.

4.5 Liabilities

Any liabilities are measured at settlement amounts less any trade discounts.

9 Analysis of staff costs and the cost of key management personnel

The charity currently does not employ staff as it subcontracts the management of the charity to Gateshead Youth Council

10 Transactions with trustees

None of the trustees have been paid any remuneration or received any other benefits from an employment with their charity or a related entity.

11 Corporation Taxation

The charity is exempt from tax on income and gains falling within section 505 of the Taxes Act 1988 or section 252 of the Taxation of Chargeable Gains Act 1992 to the extent that these are applied to its charitable objectives.
