Unit Chairperson’s report for the AGM 8th October 2025
Afer the successful YIF grant funding was received in August 2024, we have spent the last
year using these funds to update our building to make it thermally and energy wise much
more efcient.
This will hopefully pay dividends for us in the forthcoming years, especially with reduced
winter fuel bills.
We are hopeful of obtaining a further grant to replace the boiler before the end of 2025.
This refurbishment work has been hard work, but we now have a much beter looking
building, that our volunteers and cadets can enjoy.
Our special thanksgo to Lee Fiori of Total Trades, who hasprovided us with thermal cork
render to the roof and walls of our building at cost only. This has meant that our money has stretched much further than it could have done. We have already held our open day on the 23[rd] September, to show off our newly refurbished building, which was attended by the Lord Lieutenant Mrs Elizabeth Fothergill CBE.
Aside from this, we have received a few donations from local businesses that have boosted our funds.
We continue to maintain our minibus to enable us to transport our cadets to boating and also to competitions and events.
We held the District Drill & Piping Competition this year again and our RMC cadets did us proud and won yet again.
We have seen an increase in staff volunteers over the last year, as well as an increase in cadet numbers. This has increased our monthly subs income.
Our OiC Sgt Dave Wild has been instrumental in driving our ship forward on the uniformed side this year and has settled in to his role really well.
The UMA had a 97% score this year and this should improve again next year, now that our building work has been completed.
We held our RNP this year on the 17[th] July where we were awarded a burgee. The first one for a long time.
Unfortunately, we have been unable to increase the number of UMT members that we have this year and this is a primary focus for the next 12 months.
We are also starting to look at reducing our bills, as well as increasing our income going forward.
We are aiming to seek grant funding for paddleboards and associated equipment in the coming year as well.
7. Commanding officer’s report

Camp & Boating season – IBOS sorted & section C signed off. Back on Walton Dam.
UMA went really well – scored 97%
TS Royalist trip won for all cadets – amazing trip for 24 cadets & 2 staff RMC camp went really well We hosted the Lord Lieutenant at the unit and she really enjoyed her visit. We had the RNP in July and were awarded a pennant for the first time in 3 years.

8. Treasurer’s report and adoption of accounts
Treasurers Report for Financial Year ending 31/3/2025
-
The reporting period is 1/4/2024 to 31/3/25
-
Total income for the year was £97052.93. Expenditure was £98038.59 giving a surplus of expenditure over income of £985.66
-
This gave a closing bank balance of £31.87
-
Key Points
oIncome increased on the previous year from £12590.92 to £97052.93. This was almost entirely due to two grants, one being from Youth Investment Fund for £84k to refurbish the unit (this included £7k to cover such things as increased energy costs.) The other was from MSSC for £3219 to facilitate an armoury survey. -
oCadet contributions, were down by £3k due to a fall in cadet numbers.oExpenditure was higher than previous year from £15984 to £98038.59, largely due to: -
oUnit refurbishment programme – £74koArmoury Survey - £3219oIncrease in utility costs to £10987 from £5428 due to contractors being constantly on site for around 4 months and using our gas and electric. £7k of this was included in the YIF grant. -
oMinibus costs increased from £1698 to 2121 due to repair work that was required.oCost of restocking the nutty cupboard(tuck shop) was down £200 -
Cadet income lower because of lower cadet numbers. Utilities up due to contractors being in the building doing the refurbishment works. Minibus costs increased due to repairs. Paid £20 for the lottery licence. Annual accounts were proposed by LT and seconded by DW.
9. Election/re-election of the unit management committee (UMT) on an individual basis All volunteers stood down and all were re-elected as follows. IB as Treasurer John H as Secretary LT – as Chair Liza Rothery – Assistant Treasurer Jilly H (Padre) – UMT member DW - OiC
