## GSL Annual Report 2024

Good evening and welcome everyone. It is so good to be back here with you all after what has been a very challenging 18 months for me personally.

I’d like to thank the whole Leader team for holding everything together so brilliantly whilst I’ve been unwell, it is very much appreciated. The Leader team continue to provide fantastic opportunities for your children and Scouts of all ages to take part in amazing activities, events, sleepovers and camps. Let’s give them a huge round of applause.

Particular thanks go to Caro and Andy my deputies and Liz and Holly who have recently joined the Group Leadership team. Their help and support have been immense and enabled the Group to continue as normal with little or no disruption during my enforced time away.

Each Section does its own annual overview of all the exciting things they have been up to over the last twelve months, we will send those out to everyone soon and load them onto our Group website.

We remain a hugely popular and oversubscribed Scout Group, Section details are as follows:

Harrock Squirrels – 24 Squirrels, led by Holly with assistance from Clare, Elena and Victoria and Young Leader Erin.

Hillbark Squirrels – 22 Squirrels, led by Jenny with assistance from Emma, Mel, Ivan and Young Leaders Ella and Finlay.

Ismay Beavers - 15 Beavers, led by Rachel with assistance from Rachel, Liz and Victoria and Young Leader India.

Royden Beavers - 22 Beavers, led by Caro with assistance from John, Helen and Laura and Young Leaders Frankie, Sadie and Scout Eli.

Thor Beavers - 22 Beavers, led by Jayne with assistance from Helen, Gregg, Ivan, Nia and Young Leader Jared.

Fletcher Cubs - 30 Cubs led by Phil with assistance from Jay, Jon, Gayle, Emma and Holly and Young Leaders Ben, Ben and Conrad.

Reed Cubs - 28 Cubs led by Paul, with assistance from Iain, Gaynor, Jenny, Chris and their admin Kimmy and Young Leaders Ptolemy and Freya.

Martin Scouts - 28 Scouts led by Andy with assistance from Alan, Andrew and Liz and Young Leader Dan.

Richardson Scouts - 20 Scouts led by Andrew with assistance from Alan, Liz, Andy, Rachel and Alex and Young Leader Nat. Vicky does the admin for both troops.

That sounds like a lot and the numbers are huge but with over 200 Youth members, 34 Adult Volunteers and 14

Young Leaders doesn’t go very far! Fortunately, our Leader team are very flexible and cover for each other when we are short. We are very grateful to all the parents who attend and help when asked and needed.

We are always looking to increase our Volunteer Leader numbers and would welcome more help with open arms. We need more support in Hillbark Squirrels and Royden Beavers from the autumn term as neither Lead Volunteers can be there every week due to work commitments. Please consider helping us, it doesn’t have to be every week and you don’t need any special skills, we are all parents of children in the Group and are a friendly bunch who have a lot of fun along the way.

We have restructured our teams approach this year under HQ guidance. We now have three teams: The Group Leadership Team, The Section Teams and the Trustee Board. The main change to the Trustee Board is that it now focuses on ensuring good Governance rather than being involved in operations and this means moving functions like House and Grounds and Fundraising into Operations. We have some volunteers who are parents in these teams but can always use more help, please let us know if that could be you.

Many thanks to our Trustee Board for your ongoing support: Ivan, Russ (our outgoing treasurer) Helen, Wendy and Nick and those members Steve (House and Grounds) and Laura (Fundraising) who have moved into operations.

Welcome to the new Trustees Nigel, Marlou, Alan, Andrew, Phil and Mel who have joined the Board.

1[st] Thurstaston is a fantastic Scout Group made up of many components, the Scouts of all ages, the volunteer Adult Leader teams and Young Leaders, the volunteer Trustees and you the parents. Together we make Scouting happen here in Irby, week in week out, providing skills for life through Scouting activities.

Thank you

Sue Flush – Group Lead Volunteer
