TRUSTEES REPORT FOR YEAR ENDED 31 OCTOBER 2021 DUNHAM MASSEY VILLAGE HALL CHARITY NUMBER: 520045

The Hall was built in 1760 by Lord Stamford as the Village School for Dunham Massey. It closed in 1952 and in February 1961 was given in trust for the residents of Dunham Massey by the late Lord Stamford together with the School House Cottage for the caretaker.

Three Trustees were appointed and a Management Committee formed. The Committee would be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the building, cottage and grounds and to ensure all amenities in the Hall were maintained to a high standard.

In 1970’s The Stamford Estate was bequeathed to the National Trust. The Trustees and Management Committee continue to maintain everything covering all expenditure and run the Hall.

The last year has been uncertain because of the continuing Pandemic and the restrictions going with it, although it has been kind to the Village Hall from a financial perspective, because we have continued to receive Covid support and compensation payments from Trafford Council. An easing from the previous year allowed us to host several weddings and hiring’s by other new sources providing welcome income.

Amongst these new contacts was the Ark Group, a nursery which provides child care and learning services for families in the surrounding area, which has subsequently led to their taking a provisional contract with us this year with a view to establishing a more permanent home here, which we will review in July 2022.

Our programme of refurbishment, has made a big difference to the physical appearance of the Hall, worthy of the cost of a little over £13000, and we are still left with a healthy Bank balance to continue with further improvements. At this point we must record our thanks to the Treasurer Maggie for her diligent alertness to the funding availability which has made a big difference in concerning times.

We do of course need to be mindful of the role that the Village Hall plays in the future of our community and we welcome back the usual local organisations to use our facilities and return to life as we knew it before Covid. Our new association with the Ark Group promises to be a welcome addition to our community in providing a service for young children of the locality making use of the rural aspect of our vicinity to the betterment of the children and in the spirit of the intended use of our building.

We are pleased to say our monthly committee meetings have resumed and future events planned for 2022 are a Quiz in March, the return of the Car Boot Sale in May, and a Jubilee Celebration Day in June combined with the Rose Queen Festival will hopefully go some way to re-generate Community life around our much loved Village Hall.
