Achievements and performance
-
Main achievements of the charity during the year:
-
Awareness of the excellent venue Bardsea Malt Kiln provides has been raised by events the Committee has put on for the village, a greater use of the Bardsea Malt Kiln Facebook page and participation in Ulverston Charter Day. This has resulted in an increased number of hirings of the hall including ones for regular activity groups. The latter have provided more options in which Bardsea residents can participate.
-
The Committee organised a Sunflower Day in August at which prizes were awarded for winning entries in a sunflower growing competition and afternoon tea was enjoyed by many Bardsea residents. A concert provided through the Highlights rural touring scheme, ‘Bob Marley: How Reggae Changed the World’, was a sell out success in October and ‘Season’s Greetings’, an evening of Christmas songs and readings, in December was well attended. While the impetus for these events, along with a raffle where tickets were sold over two months, was the need to fundraise for renovations to the Malt Kiln, the events have brought Bardsea residents together and have been really appreciated by the village. Grants have been secured so that major renovations to the Malt Kiln can proceed next: year. | The Play Park has continued to be well used by village and visiting children and the twice monthly Bardsea Drop In mornings have continued to be popular with older residents.
-
Financial review Policy on reserves: A reserve of £25,000 is held in a savings account for large, unforeseen expenditures necessary to maintain Bardsea Malt Kiln. Sources of funds: Hire of the Malt Kiln is the principal source of funding for the everyday running and maintenance of Bardsea Malt Kiln. Grants, donations and fundraising events provide the source of funding for major renovations.
