## **TRUSTEES' REPORT FOR 2023**
2023 started quite quietly, but soon became evident that people were forsaking their pets for a number of reasons, principally because of serious illness or passing away, losing their homes, some of whom could only move to No Pets' accommodation or simply no longer being able to afford their pets' upkeep.
We freely give advice to help in any way, even if we cannot provide accommodation. We now have fewer kennels as kennel costs have vastly increased and despite having more cat fosterers we are struggling to cope with a greatly increased number of cats and kittens.
In March we saw an influx of kittens either from stray pregnant females or abandoned kittens and by the summer we were feeding over 35 kittens plus a further 10 cats and kittens on a farm where the owner had been taken ill. Another 3 cats sadly came back to us when adopters have either died or gone into care homes as WE ALWAYS TAKE BACK OUR CATS. Despite the pressures, our supporters rallied to help us to feed the 45+ cats every single day, which was a wonderful achievement by the team.
Thankfully, we have had a steady stream of offers to rehome and throughout the year we have rehomed 23 dogs and 88 cats. Each dog or cat is thoroughly vet-checked, wormed and de-fleaed, fully vaccinated, neutered and chipped. In addition, the cats are FIV tested, where appropriate. And prior to rehoming all the prospective homes are checked for safety and suitability for the pet concerned.
Our Accounts for the year 2023 are attached to this Report and whilst we are enormously grateful for the increase of £12,700 in our Income, BUT our Expenditure has increased by £16,700, before depreciation, so we are so thankful that we have funds in reserve from previous years.
Once again this is my annual opportunity to thank everyone who helps us in ANY and EVERY way, particularky those who I don't get to meet on a regular basis, such as at our monthly Coffee Mornings at Alsager Civic.
