TRUST OBJECTIVES

The Trust is established in accordance with the will of Sarah McClelland Dewar dated 29" May 1968 for the benefit of “women who are in need of financial assistance and are widows or daughters of men who have resided in Bury and have practised in the profession of the Church or Law or Medicine”.

TRUSTEES

The Trustees are the Rector and Churchwardens for the time being of the Parish Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Bury. The Trustees during the year were:

ACTIVITIES

Grants totalling £8500 were made to ten individuals in accordance with the objectives of the Trust.

RESERVES POLICY

A modest cash balance is maintained at Barclays Bank, Bury, sufficient to meet the anticipated needs of the Trustees. The majority of the Trust’s assets are under the management of James Sharp & Co, stockbrokers and invested for the benefit of the Trust.

Due to the restrictive terms of the Trust it has not always been possible to distribute the full income received and as a result the value of the Trust has grown substantially over a period of years.

Respective responsibilities The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in of trustees and examiner accordance with the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).

The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Act and that an independent examination is needed. My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
