End of Year Report – Newport Young Farmers
It has been a truly memorable and successful year for Newport Young Farmers, filled with achievement, celebration, and community spirit.
The year began with a fantastic start as we welcomed over 50 potential new members at our new members evening. It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm and interest in our club, and we are proud to have maintained this momentum throughout the year.
Our social calendar has been as strong as ever. We enjoyed a wide variety of activities and tours including a visit to Harper Adams, a tour of TR Machinery, and a behind-the-scenes insight at Fyrnwy Vets. Members also had the unique opportunity to model for Jeremy Clarkson’s Hawkstone Beer at the Fallow Field pub in Telford. On the more light-hearted side, we hosted a potato party, summer barbecue, rock climbing, go-karting and many more – all of which brought members together and strengthened friendships across the club.
One of the biggest highlights of the year was, once again, our annual Dinner Dance. With 500 people in attendance, it was another sell-out success. The evening was filled with dancing, drinking and celebrating in true Newport style. We are already looking forward to the next Dinner Dance at the end of October, which has impressively sold out already.
Charity work remains at the heart of our club, and this year we are delighted to have raised over £7,000 for good causes. This has been achieved through a number of events including our karaoke evening at the Sutherland Arms, our bonfire and fireworks night, and of course the “Rave at the Ranch” dance. A huge thank you goes to all members and supporters who made these events possible – the money raised will make a real difference.
Competition has also been a key part of our year, and Newport has once again shown its strength and commitment. Highlights include placing 5th in the One Plus competition, 3rd in the Chairman’s Charity Concert, and the girls cheerleading team reaching the national finals – a huge achievement. We must also congratulate Abbie on her outstanding success in being named National Senior Member of the Year, a thoroughly deserved recognition of her hard work and dedication.
This summer also saw us at Newport Show, where our club stand proved a great success. With activities running throughout the day, our tug of war team taking centre stage in the main ring, and even “Super Moo” making a special appearance, it was a brilliant opportunity to showcase our club to the local community.
As I look back over the year, I feel incredibly proud of everything Newport YFC has achieved. From fundraising and competitions to socials and shows, none of it would have been possible without the energy and commitment of our members, committee, and supporters. Thank you all for your hard work and enthusiasm – you are what makes this club so special.
I look forward to seeing Newport YFC continue to grow and succeed in the coming year, with even more memories to be made, and I am thrilled to welcome Abbie & Phoebe to the top table!
