It’s been a great year for Newport and wonderful to see a variety of talents shine through with competitions! Whether that be TOW, mace debating, choir, disco dancing and much more. Some of our members have really shone through and I didn’t realise we had so many disco dancers or choir singers among us!

The year started off with an extremely successful new members evening which has led to many new members. We hit the ground running with competitions, from speaking to bowling to shooting, we did it all. If I listed all the competitions we’d be here all day!

We have come out with some fantastic results among that are winning West Mids Area for Mace Debating & proceeding to National Finals.

Another great achievement was a 2nd place at WMA for disco dancing & 1st at Shropshire for Choir, Situations Vacant & Junior Reading.

It doesn’t stop there, we had 8 people take part in the shooting competition which led to Newport taking the crown for best novice male and 2nd for Novice Female. The certificates just haven’t stopped coming in.

Tug of War has become a new club favourite this year, we were training hard with a full men’s, women’s and junior team for the TOW competition in April. We wouldn’t have known where to start or even have progressed as much as we have without our fantastic coach Siobhaun, her partner Tim & her dad Shaun.

A huge achievement for Newport has been the Float at Shropshire show. The club truly came together to pull off a fantastic theme of Snow White & the Seven Dwarves by kind permission of the Holman & Cooke families. The club put so much time and effort into pulling off such an extraordinary achievement of a 3rd place float. This itself is an incredible achievement in the history of Newport YFC.

Socials have varied this year from tours round RVT, go karting, crazy golf and pork pie making. There are a few speed demons on a race track as we’ve established too.

As the year began to quieten down, it was time for Newport Show. Whether it was helping with setup, on the day or on the stand, I don’t think there was a member who wasn’t involved in some way and I couldn’t be prouder to see it. Hermione organised an incredible stand which shone out above the main ring and showed people what Newport YFC is all about! The new addition of the TOW was welcomed and although we didn’t win on home turf, we sure had a good time doing it! I could not be prouder of every single member of Newport, the sense of community within this club is incredible and I have never met such dedicated members to a clubs future. I also want to wish Abbie the best of luck with her campaign for County Vice Chair, she truly would be a fantastic rep for YFC and Newport will be behind her all the way!

I know I will be leaving the club in the safe hands of Ollie, Owen and Hermione who will be having more of a social year so it’s time to let your hair down from all the competitions for a bit and enjoy the new year of the club!
