Group Lead Volunteer’s Report

Calie Smith

Firstly, I would like to welcome everyone to our AGM and presentation evening.

Over the last year you may not have realsied but there has been lots going on in the back ground in all 3 sections and within the group. Recently I have taken on the role as Group Lead as Richard has retired from work but also decided to change his role within the scouting movement.

The number of young people joining has increased in all 3 sections which is great to see, and that the 47th have seen the numbers of adults volunteering increase as well this year. But also some adults are no longer with us for various reasons, moving on to different roles or due to personal reasons, for example work commitments. For those that have left us this year thank you for your efforts over the time you have supported the group.

At Christmas we decided to run a Group Jump In Camp for all: Beavers, Cubs and Scouts and this was enjoyed by over 60 Young people and adults too.

I have been with the group for around 15 years and over this time the team of fantastic people and thanking them for their work and dedication to scouting and the 47th Group. Special thanks to the section leaders who often go above and beyond, not only on section nights but all the add on nights, days and nights away and endless planning.

As you are all aware we are planning a trip to Disney Land Paris this October which has been planned over a year ago, again the team have put a lot of time and effort already sorting the behind scences with 4 months to go.

Fundrasisng continues to bring in revenue to help keep the group going by paying for domestic bills, new equipment to replace old items and to keep the costs of subs, camps and trips to a minium ensuring accessilbilty.

My final thanks goes out to you all: parents for bringing your children/young people to us each week and to the young people, as it is great to see so many young people enjoying their time at our group and within the section nights and events.

My plea: If you or any family/friends: Can spare an hour a week to help/support in any role within our group you’ll be welcomed.

Beavers Report

Calie Smith – Section Team Leader

The 47[th] Beavers are so enthused, we have had a busy year and section numbers have continued to be steady. We have had a few beavers transition to cubs over the year and achieving their Bronze award.

We have had several sleepovers/camps at the hut. Beavers have also attended group events in the last year: Harvest – Collected food Donations, Remembrance parade and Carole Service at Christmas.

Beavers attending are regularly receiving badges and skills to help support their development and confidence through a varied programme offering all the children/Beavers the opportunity to take part and achieve. I feel this has enhanced over the year and continuously looking at challenges and change to keep up to date and still keep the ethos of the Beaver Scouts values.

Feedback and comments from parents and beavers has been very positive over the past year, they have enjoyed the camps and activities a lot and have been very supportive.

The Leadership team over the year: myself-Cricket-Calie Smith, Magpie-Caroline Wood, DeerBecky Archer, Hedgehog – Sophie Smith, Raven- Sam Turnball and Ladybird-Katie Wrenn. Young leaders/Scouts: Lincoln Warner, Jake Wood, Alanna John.

Finally I would just like to say a ‘ Big Thank You’ to everyone involved in this section and their support over the last year. Especially the new parents, who have come aboard helping at events as an occasional helper/leader. Also a ‘ Thank You’ to other section leaders who have stepped in when needed, which is gratefully received.

Cubs Report

Gary Smith – Section Team Leader

Wow what a whirlwind the last 12 months have been.

The Section has grown exponentially over this period of time at a rate faster than even we anticipated to a point where we currently have 29 Cubs enrolled with us. This means our section is currently at capacity for the Wednesday night.

Our Leadership Team has also increased and with that comes a more diverse knowledge base and ideas.

We are currently continuing to run a diverse program with a mix of hard & soft skills for the Cubs to experience. Our aim is to give these young people the opportunity to experience a wide variety of challenging activities & experiences to help them grow in confidence and develop into more rounded individuals as they progress through their time with our section and on into their time in Scouts. The aim is for all Cubs that have been with the section for the full two & a half years to achieve their Silver Chief Scout Award before they advance to Scouts

Scouts Report

Gary Smith - Section Team Leader

Scouts section:

The Scouts section continues to go from strength to strength with the section currently having 24 active Scouts. The requirement for a female to join the leadership team has been resolved with the addition of Charlie becoming the latest member to join Darren, Matt, Gavin and myself. We have also recruited 2 Explorer Scouts who have kindly volunteered to become Young Leaders with us and we are very honoured and privileged to welcome Georgia & Layla into our section.

As with the Cubs section we are currently running a diverse & challenging program with a mix of hard & soft skill based activities to help develop the scouts, make them more independent and prepare them for when they advance to Explorers.

The Scout section continues to maintain a good strength with 24 Scouts currently active within the section and progressing towards their Gold Chief Scout Award.
