## **Objectives and Activities**

||SORP reference||
|---|---|---|
|Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document|Para 1.17|**The Dorstone Village Hall is there for the**
**committee, residents and organisations**
**to hold a wide range of events and**
**activities, which benefit the community**
**life of Dorstone and surrounding area.**|
|Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or
services identified in the
accounts.|Para 1.17 and
1.19|**We host a range of income-generating**
**activities for local organisations, such**
**as fitness classes, private events, talks**
**and wedding parties, but most**
**importantly we offer opportunities for**
**people to come together through our**
**weekly schedule of events. People living**
**in rural areas are at heightened risk of**
**social isolation, which can lead to poor**
**health, loss of independence and lower**
**quality of life, according to the Local**
**Government Association. Our very**
**existence helps combat this problem.**|
|Statement confirming
whether the trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit|Para 1.18|**The trustees and management**
**committee of the Dorstone Village Hall**
**have focused on delivering the Dorstone**
**Village Hall as a resource and assets for**
**the sole use of Dorstone Parish and**
**surrounding areas, to help build a sense**
**of community and combat social**
**isolation. We exist solely for the public**
**benefit of our community.**|

## **Achievements and Performance**

||SORP reference||
|---|---|---|
|Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.|Para 1.20|**Loneliness is a significant issue in rural**
**aging populations, which can lead**
**quickly to social isolation. We feel that**
**we are addressing this in two ways, one**
**by hosting regular monthly events**
**where all members of our community**
**are invited and secondly reaching out to**
**those that are socially isolated to**
**encourage them to attend and**
**participate. We also offer a service to**
**collect and return home any community**
**member with mobility issues for village**
**hall run events. Our events are not just**
**there to raise money, although with**
**significantly rising utility costs it is**
**becoming a need, our regular monthly**
**events offer all members of our**
**community a chance to come together**
**and re-connect. This encourages those**
**that are socially isolated or lonely to**
**reconnect with other community**
**members and get together in a non-**
**confronting manner. We feel that our**
**events help to re-establish old**
**friendships and make it easier for**
**people to reconnect in a safe**
**environment which often leads to them**
**connecting outside of our events. At our**
**recent sold-out curry night there were**
**many elderly parish residents that are**
**rarely seen, in attendance. Our regular**
**coffee mornings are starting again next**
**month where any local members of our**
**community can drop in and have a chat,**
**in an informal way to reconnect and re-**
**establish friendships that may have**
**lapsed and to demonstrate the support**
**our community has for all its members.**
**Our elderly community members are**|

**also reluctant to travel far for an evening and without events being held locally in the village hall their social interaction opportunities would be heavily restricted.**
