The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out in note 1 and comply with the Charity's Constitution, the Charities Act 2011 and the requirements of the Statement of Recommended Practice, "Accounting and Reporting by Charities" (SORP 2005) issued in March 2005. ## **Governing document and objects of the charity** Bolsterstone Male Voice Choir is governed by constitution as adopted on 28 April 1986 and amended on 20 January 1997 and 28 September 2009. The trustees are elected from the membership. The choir is managed by an annually elected executive committee. All trustees give their time freely and no remuneration was paid in the year. Details of expenses reclaimed from the charity are set out in note 2 to the accounts. ## **Objectives and aims** The objectives of the charity are to foster and promote the education of the general public in the appreciation of music and to promote the study, practice ad performance of choral work. The choir provides training and practice evenings for all those who wish to sing in the male voice choir tradition. Concert performances are given locally and further afield in Britain and abroad, for the enjoyment of members and audiences alike. The choir also takes part in choral festivals and competitions. ## **Public benefit** In planning the activities of the charity, the trustees confirm that they have referred to the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit. The trustees keep in mind the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit when ensuring that activities which the committee plans for the choir are in accordance with the stated choir objectives. The committee organises training and rehearsal evenings for all who wish to sing in the male voice choir tradition, arranging the venue and the engagement of a musical director and accompanist. BOLSTERSTONE MALE VOICE CHOIR TRUSTEES' REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2020 ## **Review of activities and achievements** Weekly rehearsals are usually held throughout the year on Monday evenings and occasionally other times at the Bolsterstone Village Hall, allowing members and new recruits to maintain a high-performance standard, unfortunately The Covid Pandemic restricted rehearsals and performances throughout the whole of 2020. Performances at a wide variety of venues, often with other choirs or bands usually take place throughout the year but unfortunately these have been limited to the early part of 2020 due to the pandemic. Our annual Golf Day usually held in July was unable to take place this year. We usually participate in many local community events, including Remembrance celebrations in Bolsterstone and Upper Denby, a pensioners Christmas party, a carol sing along at a nursing home and the annual Bolsterstone Village Fayre and hope that these events will resume in 2021. ## **Financial Review** The principal sources of funds are the member's own donations, proceeds of our own concerts and donations from members of the public and organisations such as PA Jewellery, Bradfield Brewery. We retain part of the proceeds of the annual golf charity day and receive contributions towards expenses from organisations that invite us to perform on their behalf. The funds are primarily spent on facilitating rehearsals and performances (venue, expenses for conductors and accompanists) and sheet music. The Statement of Financial Activities shows incoming resources for the year of £ (2020: £35,078.) and resources expended for the year of £ (2020: £32,812). This resulted in a surplus/ deficit of £ (2020: surplus of £2,266) and unrestricted/ restricted funds carried forward at 31 December 2020 of £ (2020: £22,333). FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DEDCEMBER 2020 ## **Reserve** The choir does not have a policy on reserves, other than to maintain sufficient reserves to ensure ongoing viability. Free reserves at 31 December 2020 were considered sufficient. ## **Risk Management** The trustees have considered the major risks to which the charity is exposed and have reviewed those risks and established systems and procedures to manage these. ## **Statement of trustees' responsibilities** The trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees' Report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards. The law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the charity for that period. In preparing these financial statements, the trustees are required to: - select suitable accounting policies and apply them consistently. - observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP. - make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent. - state whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements. - prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in operation. The trustees are responsible for keeping accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011, the Charity Regulations 2008 and the constitution. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities. This report was approved by the trustees on 31st October 2021 and signed on its behalf by **Mr David Bradshaw Trustee** BOLSTERSTONE MALE VOICE CHOIR ## INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF BOLSTERSTONE MALE VOICE CHOIR I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 December 2020 which are set out on pages 6 to 11. ## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner** The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to: - examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act. - follow the procedure laid down in the general directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act: and - state whether particular matters have come to my attention. ## **Basis of independent examiner's report** My examination was carried out in accordance with the general directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a "true and fair view" and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below. ## **Independent examiner's statement** In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention: 1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements: - to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act: and - to prepare accounts with accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting have not been met; or 2. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts reached. **20,067**| |---|---| The financial statements were approved by the Board of Trustees on 31st October 2021 and signed on their behalf by Mr David Bradshaw Trustee BOLSTERSTONE MALE VOICE CHOIR NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2020 ## **1.Accounting policies** ## **1.1 Accounting convention** The financial statements are prepared under the historical cost convention and follow the recommendations in the Statement of Recommended Practice "Accounting and Reporting by Charities" (SORP 2005) issued in March 2005, the Charities Act 2011 and applicable accounting standards. ## **1.2 Incoming resources** Voluntary income is received by way of donations and gifts and is included in full in the Statement of Financial Activities when receivable. Gifts donated for resale are included as income when they are sold. Gifts in kind are included at the value to the charity where this can be quantified, and a third party is bearing the cost. Income from investments is included in the year in which it is receivable. Subscription and concert income are included in the year in which it is receivable. ## **1.3 Resources expended** Expenditure is recognised when a liability is incurred. Liabilities are recognised as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to pay out resources. ## **1.4 Irrecoverable VAT** All resources expended are classified under activity headings that aggregate all costs related to the category. Irrecoverable VAT is charged against category of resources expended for which it was incurred. ## **1.5 Tangible fixed assets and depreciation** Depreciation is provided at rates calculated to write off the cost less residual value of each asset over its expected useful life, as follows: Equipment - straight line over 10 years BOLSTERSTONE MALE VOICE CHOIR ## NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS - Continued FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2020 ## **1.6 Stock held for resale** Stock is valued at the lower of cost or net realisable value. Closing stock Value at the 31st December 2020 is £1,069.00. ## **1.7 Fund accounting** Funds held by the charity are either: - Unrestricted general funds - these are funds which can be used in accordance with the charitable objects at the discretion of the trustees. - Restricted funds - these are funds that can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes. ## **2. Trustees remuneration and expenses** Trustees received incidental payments for reimbursed expenses. No trustees received any remuneration. ## **3. Donations** Donations were received from Friends of Bolsterstone Choir, Choir members and the general public, either for general purposes or given for a specific purpose. ## **4. Verona Income** This figure also includes refunds from travel providers such as Ryanair.
