HEREFORDSHIRE CHEST FUND Chairman's Report 2021 - 2022
This year there was a substantial donation in memory of Bernard Morgan from his estate. The Chest Fund was one of nearly 20 beneficiaries and we were pleased to receive over £25,000.
In addition, there has now been a return to more normal levels of reimbursement for reports from the DVLA, which has started to boost the income.
Otherwise, cheques from individuals have been smaller, apart from the large one mentioned above.
Expenditure on courses for staff have been quite a lot higher, over £6,000, reflecting the increase in the number of Nurses and Respiratory Physiologist's that we are helping train. We did not spend any money on patients or equipment for patients this last year, partly because patient activity was quite a lot lower during COVID and also because capital monies were less of a problem during COVID and much of the equipment that had to be bought was very expensive, i.e) nasal ventilators e.t.c.
Thus, the amount of money in the bank is now better than it has ever been. It is more likely than not next year our expenditure will exceed the incoming amounts, given we are unlikely to get a further £25,000 + donation.
Dr du Rand has agreed to take over as the Secretary and Chair of the Trust Fund. Currently the Trust Fund is with Virgin Money who had taken over Cheltenham &
Gloucester Building Society, who had previously taken over the Yorkshire Building Society. Thus, the account now sits in a bank in Cheltenham. I will endeavour to get digital access to this and also have a search around accounts which pay interest, especially now interest rates are increasing.
I am happy to remain as a Trustee if required for the foreseeable future and I would like to thank all of the other Trustees and those who have helped the Herefordshire Chest Fund for the past 26 years of my involvement. I think the Chest Fund has proved itself a valuable resource to fund pieces of equipment, support training of our enlarging group of Juniors, Nurses and Physiotherapists, as well as occasionally support some research and some patient activity.
Yours sincerely,
