Chairs Report.
In Lisa’s absence. Ian thanked all the leaders for their tremendous efforts in this unique year. In particular the amazing work with zoom meetings for beavers, cubs and scouts. Hopefully next year we will be able to celebrate our belated 60[th] anniversary in style. Ian also
thanked people in advance for their efforts in the forthcoming hut day!
Beaver Report 20/21
This year we have been hit with the Coronavirus and unfortunately this stopped us having Face to Face meetings, but it didn’t stop us Scouting. We were due to celebrate our group anniversary: 60years! I’m sure we will make up for it as soon as we’re able to.
Our colony persevered and managed to gain a variety of badges working from home. Quite a few Beavers joined in our Counties ‘ Big Camp Out’ : this allowed Beavers to have a Night(s) away in a homemade den inside or in the comfort of a tent. They were set challenges as part of a STEM project making rubber band cars; parachute bird feeders to stop squirrels and Paddle boats.
They also took part in the National ‘ Hike to the Moon’ and raised money for Comic Relief and Children in Need. We also did, Care for Care Homes : Beavers did some lovely pictures for the local care/residential homes. Bright pictures and lovely worded messages as well as poems to cheer members of our community up.
The Beavers at home have managed badges on cycling, cooking, book reading, looking after their pets, tending to their Garden and the community. They have also been ticking off parts of the challenge badges with the Big camp out, looking after Nature around them with the ‘ 30 days wild challenge’ as well as the creative tasks and other activities put to them.
Well Done to the Parents for supporting them to achieve their badges in such a challenging time for us all. We will look back and be very proud to have survived this Lockdown while being so productive.
Despite all its challenges, we have given out 75 badges and awards during Lockdown and 90 badges overall this year. This is a great amount and the Beavers have worked so very hard to achieve what is asked of them.
The colony also awarded 2 Chief Scout Bronze awards. Everything we plan goes towards a badge and our aim is get all Beavers gain their Chief Scout Bronze award, however the Beavers do need to be an active member and complete all tasks provided.
Thank you for your continued support. This year has challenged us all and I know Zoom hasn’t been easy but Thank you for being behind the scenes encouraging the Beavers to continue with their scouting journey. It certainly cheered me up seeing all their smiley faces.
A big thanks to all the support our Beaver Colony gets from other leaders and parents it is greatly appreciated and please may your support continue. We really couldn’t do any of it without your support.

Cubs Report 20/21
Obviously, this year hasn’t been the year we had planned, but we have tried to make the best of a situation that has been difficult for everyone.
We’ve continued to run weekly meetings via Zoom doing a variety of different activities, including a very popular weekly treasure hunt. This was completely new to all of us and while it took as a while to get into the swing of things, we ran a variety of activities and work towards several badges.
The Cubs that attended these sessions were great and joined in with all activities with enthusiasm which made them much easier to run. At the same time, I understand that online sessions weren’t for everyone, and some found them difficult.
Whilst we made the most of the online sessions, everyone was glad to get back to the hut after Easter, and hopefully we’ll be able to carry on that way. We’re hoping to run a variety of activities over the next 12 months including some delayed celebrations for the group’s 60[th] Anniversary.
Thanks to all the Cubs & parents who have stuck with us through this difficult time. Also, we’d like to say a massive thank you to the parents that have helped us out on a Wednesday night to enable us to run certain activities.
We’re hoping to increase numbers back to what they were pre-Covid, but due to the fact we’ve only got 2 adult leaders we may need to call on this support from time to time again. This support is invaluable and enables us to run a varied and interesting programme for the Cubs.
Thanks
Steve & Nick Wingrove
Scout Report 20/21
When Scouts & leaders signed up for Scouting, we never thought we’d be doing 12 months of meetings remotely, but I think we’ve made the best of difficult last 12 months.
Thanks to all the Scouts who took part in a variety of online activities including escape rooms and several games of online games. We also managed to quite a
bit of work towards Challenge badges for the Scouts that attended. Also, thanks to our older Scouts who a massive help to us as l
Either online or when back in person we have managed to move 5 new Scouts up from Cubs which is great and has boosted our numbers. We’re hoping to move a few more up in September.
We have also, welcomed back Alex, a former Scouts as an extra leader, and a great addition to our leadership team.
As with the other sections we are hoping to do a wide variety of activities over the next 12 months, hopefully including some outdoor activities and camping.
Thanks
Steve Wingrove (and Rob Atkinson, Yan Horton & Alex Elphick)
