REPORT ON WORK
Our work this year has emphasised recovery from the pandemic. We were able to hold the
staff team logether through the furlough scheme and Ihe discussions and plans
concentrated on broadening the base of our work Ihrough more work with older people and
changing the nature of our work with younger people.
This has meant a move away from regular after school, holiday and breakfast clubs to more
flexible activily groups Icrafl, cooking etc.) which respond lo needs and demands of young
people and their parenls. Key reasons for this new approach are, it must be said, increasing
costs and falling numbers. We see a link between falling numbers and issues such as more
people working from home, changes in the structure of work le.g. reduction andlor changing
hours), loss of jobs and tighter personal finances.
A greater emphasis on the provision of warm, wholesome food has also become evident for
bolh younger and older service users.
More time is spent on funding matters in common wilh many olher organisations in our
sector as money and olher support becomes more difticull to find.
Our social activities continue and we depend on, and thank, our slaff and volunteers. We are
also graleful for the partnership with Scarborough Borough Council as pressure and need
increases.
