Leader, leader team, Trustees and fundraisers; without whom none of this would have been possible.

## **From the Group Scout Leader**

The Group’s accounting year started as the world adjusted to life with Covid 19 and the very many challenges, demands, sadness and restrictions this brought to us all. Some of our adult team had to shield, some were furloughed or worked from home, whilst others continued their vital roles as essential workers. Despite the restrictions and challenges faced, they continued to meet virtually to plan and offer various Scouting challenges to our youth members; maintaining contact and steering members to one our most successful badge awarding years ever through badges-athome. Clearly, this wasn’t ideal for any of us, but their actions were borne out of duty and I think they did their very best under unprecedented circumstances, and I for one would like to say thank you and salute their efforts.

We have been both delighted and grateful that the vast majority of member families have stuck with us; paying membership fees right through the lock-downs and restricted programme. For this we are enormously grateful. This has enabled us to cover all our annual operational costs.

Success with grant applications to Northumberland County Council, the Lord High Sheriff of Northumberland, Choppington Parish Council and the Bernard Sunley Trust have enabled our Trustees to approve plans to renovate the hall toilets and to relocate the kitchen during the forthcoming school summer holidays – a project that has been several years in the making.

Long-time supporter, Louise Johnson, joined the Beaver team as a Section Assistant along with Stacey Dodds, whilst Allison Morton took on the role of Assistant Beaver Scout Leader. Vikkie Everard completed the Cub Leader Wood Badge qualification. Assistant Scout Leader, Katie Smith, became an Assistant County Commissioner for Scouts and was awarded the Chief Scout’s Commendation for Good Service. Our Treasurer, Tania Clark, received the Award of Merit for over 10 years of exceptional service, and Group Supporter (our former Scout and Explorer Leader), Stuart Dobson, passed the astonishing milestone of over 40 years voluntary service to the Movement. Finally, our Secretary, Marlene Railton, Scout Leader, Ian Smith, and Cub Leader, Graeme Shiel, received commendations from the Lord High Sheriff for services to the community. We are immensely proud of their achievements and with them, look forward to happier times ahead - enjoying the _**Great Game of Scouting**_ .

## **A message from the Group Executive Chairman**

The last year has presented many new challenges for us all and I am pleased to say that our leader team has risen to those challenges; enabling young people to continue to enjoy Scouting under difficult circumstances.

As we approach our Annual General Meeting where I will be standing-down after four years as your Chairman, I have reflected on the changes that have occurred at Stakeford Scouts in recent times: we moved from weekly cash subs payments to bank standing orders which has provided a firm financial footing and enabled Leaders to give more time to Scouting by eliminating time spent as cashiers. The Scout Hall has had its inefficient oil-fired system replaced with a modern gas-fired combi-boiler; there has been a variety of painting and building works. Kitchen and toilet improvements are in the pipeline after several years of fund-raising, enabling our young people, leaders and helpers to enjoy Scouting activities in an improved, pleasant and comfortable environment.

In closing I would like to congratulate our GSL, Tony Railton, on being awarded the Scout Association’s Bar to the Silver Acorn in recognition of consistently distinguished service to the Movement for almost 30 years. _**Dave Holmes**_

Fundraising during the past year has been exceptional and I am pleased that the Group is in a much better financial position as I end my term as Chair than it was when I started, due, in large part, to the hard work and efforts of the Group Scout
