**Objects:** (A) TO PROMOTE THE ADVANCEMENT OF THE EDUCATION OF THE PUBLIC BY THE PROMOTION OF THE STUDY OF ALL ASPECTS OF LOCAL HISTORY AND ARCHAEOLOGY IN THE NEWPORT AREA AND DISTRICT. (B) TO PROMOTE AND ORGANISE CO-OPERATION IN THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE ABOVE PURPOSE AND TO THAT END TO BRING TOGETHER REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATUTORY AUTHORITIES, VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS AND INDIVIDUALS WITHIN THE AREA OF BENEFIT.
