Trustees Annual Return 2021

Southam Community Church

Year ending 31[st] December 2021

This has been another year which has been affected by Covid-19.

The impact of the pandemic has resulted in the church having to close our doors during the lockdown period.

However, the church was able to continue its respond to the pandemic lockdown situation by continuing with regular Zoom based services to maintain social connection with the majority of the congregation who were able to connect. We also had several other Christians who were unable to attend their own local services join with us on a regular basis. Those who were not able to join us on Zoom were provided with regular telephone contact.

We were also able to continue our outreach programme by creating regular weekly video messages that were sent out via Facebook, email and Twitter

The Trustees have all remained in place and have been a great encouragement to the church leadership.

Keith Batstone, the original minister, and Tony Brown have continued leading the church and have been ably supported by James Williams as our new Associate Minister who has been working in a part time capacity during the year.

We are members of the Combined Churches in Southam and took a leading part in the virtual Easter Good Friday march on Zoom which was well attended by folks from all the churches. We were also able to take part in the annual Southam Christmas lights switch on ceremony by providing a choir to lead the carol singing.

We were able to re-open in late summer/early Autumn for Sunday morning services but continued to use Zoom for our Monday evening prayer times and Wednesday evening bible studies.

Other face to face meetings such as the Wednesday afternoon services, parents and tots meeting and services in local residential homes were not able to resume in 2021.

During 2021 we have continued our on-going support for Nagaland Bible College, World of Worth, Anneth Nkanda in Tanzania and the work of Ebenezer

We are investing in a replacement audio visual system which will allow us to stream the Sunday services as a hybrid solution linking face to face meeting with simultaneously providing internet access on Zoom and Youtube.

At the end of a challenging year there has been a real strengthening of faith within the church and the online services have helped keep people together.

We look forward to God’s blessing on the church in 2022 as we acknowledge God’s direction for the fellowship and start to emerge from lockdown conditions. We are also looking forward to James and his family moving into Southam in Autumn 2022.

## **Independent examiner’s report to the trustees of Southam Community Church**

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of Southam Community Church (the Trust) for the year ended 31[st] December 2021.

## **Responsibilities and basis of report**

As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

## **Independent examiner’s statement**

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of the Act; or

2. the accounts do not accord with those records.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
