The Objectives of the Society (Montgomeryshire Youth Theatre) are as follows: ‘To foster and promote the education of young people, in Welsh and in English, in the appreciation and practice of Drama in all its aspects, and to co-operate with Local Authorities, Educational Institutions and Cultural Societies relating to the practice and presentation and study of Drama in order inter alia to promote better knowledge and more widespread interest in the practice of the performing arts.’

In furtherance of these Objectives, during the twelve months which are the subject of this report, Montgomeryshire Youth Theatre has engaged in activities and delivered a programme detailed in subsequent paragraphs.

3. Appointment of Trustees

The Management Committee of the Youth Theatre comprises its Trustees (appointed annually at the Annual General Meeting), co-opted members with specific artistic and other skills, and representatives elected by the youth members. New Trustees are apprised of their duties as Trustees, and the governing document and policies are

2. Amcanion

Mae Amcanion y Gymdeithas (Theatr Ieuenctid Sir Drefaldwyn) fel a ganlyn: ‘Meithrin a hybu addysg pobl ifanc, yn y Gymraeg a’r Saesneg, mewn gwerthfawrogi ac ymarfer Drama yn ei holl agweddau, a chydweithredu ag Awdurdodau Lleol, Sefydliadau Addysgol a Chymdeithasau Diwylliannol sy’n ymwneud ag arfer, cyflwyno ac astudio Drama i hybu gwell gwybodaeth a diddordeb ehangach yn y celfyddydau perfformio, ymhlith pethau eraill.’

Wrth geisio cyflawni’r Amcanion hyn, yn ystod y deuddeg mis y mae’r adroddiad hwn yn eu cwmpasu, mae Theatr Ieuenctid Sir Drefaldwyn wedi darparu rhaglen ac wedi cymryd rhan mewn gweithgareddau y manylir arnyn nhw mewn paragraffau yn nes ymlaen.

3. Penodi Ymddiriedolwyr

Mae Pwyllgor Rheoli’r Theatr Ieuenctid yn cynnwys ei Hymddiriedolwyr (a benodir pob blwyddyn yn y Cyfarfod Cyffredinol Blynyddol), aelodau cyfetholedig â sgiliau artistig penodol a sgiliau eraill, a chynrychiolwyr y mae’r aelodau ifanc yn eu hethol. Maen nhw’n cyfarfod yn rheolaidd drwy gydol y flwyddyn, bob tri mis, a cheir cyswllt parhaus rhwng y Cyfarwyddwr Artistig a’r swyddogion/aelodau unigol o’r pwyllgor rheoli y tu allan i’r cyfarfodydd hyn. Rhoddir gwybod i Ymddiriedolwyr newydd am eu dyletswyddau fel Ymddiriedolwyr, a chyfeirir at y ddogfen lywodraethol a pholisïau wrth wneud pob penderfyniad.

used as points of reference in all decision-making.

4. Policies and Practice

The Youth Theatre operates under the following policies: The Protection of Children and Young People; Disability; Equal Opportunities; Safeguarding; Covid 19 Safety and Mitigation;

Guidelines and Procedures for Health and Safety.

As part of the induction and/or training of any persons working regularly with the Youth Theatre, the provisions of these policies are made clear, and adherence to them a provision of engagement.

Although it has no written policy for the use of the Welsh language, the Youth Theatre attempts to work bilingually whenever appropriate, with its annual reports and some publicity material published in both languages.

5. Finance and Fundraising

This year the Youth Theatre has been grateful for the financial support of The Llysdinam Trust, Powys County Council, The Gwendoline and Margaret Davies Trust, The Moondance Foundation, The Community Foundation Wales, The Sylvia Waddilove Foundation, The Lady Neville Skinners Foundation, The New Street Trusts, The Julia and Hans Rausing Trust, Powys County Council Community Fund and The D’Oyly Carte Foundation. Unfortunately, this financial year we have mostly been unable to generate income from independent fundraising – except for this year’s Murder Mystery event with which we were able to proceed at the very last minute. However, we have been very fortunate to receive Covid 19 relief and project funding from a variety of sources which has enabled us to provide many opportunities for our students despite the havoc wreaked by the pandemic. All artists working for the Youth Theatre are paid at agreed professional rates; however, a great deal of voluntary work by members of the management committee and others is essential to the viability of the organisation.

The Youth Theatre has a reserves policy of £2000. An annual budget is agreed at the first committee meeting of each year, and financial reports and updates are presented at each subsequent meeting. Under the Charities Act 2006, now implemented, the ceiling of annual income requiring independent examination has been raised to £25,000. As the Youth Theatre's annual income this year is above this figure, due to a capital grant of £9000, independent examination is required. However, the annual accounts, presented as part of this report, continue to be compiled (on an income and expenditure basis) as required by the Charity Commission.

6. Organisation and Membership

Following on from the success of our socially-distanced, outdoor workshops in the summer of 2020 we had to try to find a way to keep our members engaged creatively – both with each other and with the youth theatre. Fortunately, we received funding for workshops in a variety of topics to be held over the Zoom app and this was set up by the very efficient Abi Johns who now works on a regular basis for the youth theatre. Over the autumn and winter of 2020 and the spring of 2021 Abi carried out a total of 30 x 2 hour Zoom Drama sessions, I led 12 Creative Writing sessions and Harry carried out 4 Stage Make up sessions. We also organised

4. Polisïau ac Arfer

Mae’r Theatr Ieuenctid yn gweithredu’n unol â’r polisïau a ganlyn: Amddiffyn Plant a Phobl Ifanc; Anabledd; Cyfle Cyfartal; Diogelu: Diogelwch a Lliniaru Covid 19; Canllawiau a Gweithdrefnau Iechyd a Diogelwch. Fel rhan o gyfnod ymsefydlu a/neu hyfforddi unrhyw unigolion sy’n gweithio gyda’r Theatr Ieuenctid yn rheolaidd, manylir ar ddarpariaethau’r polisïau hyn, ac mae cydymffurfio â nhw’n amod swydd.

Er nad oes gan y Theatr Ieuenctid bolisi ysgrifenedig ar ddefnyddio’r Gymraeg, mae’n gwneud pob ymdrech i weithio’n ddwyieithog pan fo’n briodol, a chyhoeddir ei hadroddiadau blynyddol, a pheth deunydd cyhoeddusrwydd, yn y ddwy iaith.

5. Cyllid a Chodi Arian

Eleni, mae’r Theatr Ieuenctid wedi bod yn ddiolchgar am gefnogaeth ariannol Ymddiriedolaeth Llysdinam, Cyngor Sir Powys, Ymddiriedolaeth Gwendoline a Margaret Davies, Sefydliad Moondance, Sefydliad Cymunedol Cymru, Sefydliad Sylvia Waddilove, Sefydliad Lady Neville Skinners, Ymddiriedolaethau New Street, Ymddiriedolaeth Julia a Hans Rausing, Cronfa Gymunedol Cyngor Sir Powys a Sefydliad D’Oyly Carte. Yn anffodus, rydyn ni wedi methu â chynhyrchu fawr ddim o incwm o godi arian annibynnol yn y flwyddyn ariannol hon – ar wahân i’r digwyddiad Dirgelwch Llofruddiaeth eleni yr oedden ni wedi gallu ei gynnal ar y funud olaf. Fodd bynnag, rydyn ni wedi bod yn ffodus i dderbyn cyllid cymorth Covid 19 a chyllid prosiectau o amrywiaeth o ffynonellau sydd wedi’n galluogi i ddarparu llawer o gyfleoedd ar gyfer ein myfyrwyr er gwaethaf, y llanast y mae’r pandemig wedi’i greu. Mae pob artist sy’n gweithio i’r Theatr Ieuenctid yn cael ei dalu ar gyfraddau proffesiynol y cytunir arnyn nhw. Fodd bynnag, mae llawer iawn o waith gwirfoddol aelodau’r pwyllgor rheoli ac eraill yn hanfodol er hyfywdra’r sefydliad.

Mae gan y Theatr Ieuenctid bolisi cronfa wrth gefn o £2000. Cytunir ar gyllideb flynyddol yng nghyfarfod cyntaf y pwyllgor bob blwyddyn, a chyflwynir adroddiadau a diweddariadau ariannol ym mhob cyfarfod wedi hynny. Yn unol â Deddf Elusennau 2006, sydd bellach ar waith, mae isafswm yr incwm blynyddol sydd angen ei archwilio’n annibynnol wedi’i gynyddu i £25,000. Gan fod incwm blynyddol y Theatr Ieuenctid yn uwch na’r ffigur hwn, oherwydd grant cyfalaf o £9000, mae galw cael archwiliad annibynnol. Fodd bynnag, mae’r cyfrifon blynyddol, a gyflwynir fel rhan o’r adroddiad hwn, yn parhau i gael eu cynhyrchu (ar sail incwm a gwariant) fel sy’n ofynnol gan y Comisiwn Elusennau.

6. Trefniadaeth ac Aelodaeth

Yn dilyn llwyddiant ein gweithdai awyr agored yn haf 2020 gan gadw pellter cymdeithasol, roedd yn rhaid i ni geisio dod o hyd i ffyrdd i gadw ein haelodau wedi ymgysylltu’n greadigol – gyda’i gilydd a gyda’r theatr ieuenctid. Yn ffodus, fe wnaethon ni dderbyn arian ar gyfer gweithdai ar amrywiaeth o destunau i gael eu cynnal dros Zoom a sefydlwyd hyn gan yr hynod effeithiol Abi Johns, sydd bellach yn gweithio’n rheolaidd i’r theatr ieuenctid. Yn ystod hydref a gaeaf 2020 a gwanwyn 2021, cynhaliodd Abi gyfanswm o 30 o sesiynau drama 2 awr ar Zoom, arweiniais i 12 sesiwn Ysgrifennu Creadigol a chynhaliodd Harry 4 sesiwn Colur Llwyfan. Fe wnaethon ni hefyd drefnu tri gweithdy adrodd stori anhygoel wedi’u darparu gan Jo Munton o Bypedau Vagabondi a arweiniodd at ein prosiect ‘Saved by Skirts’.

three fantastic storytelling workshops which were provided by Jo Munton of Vagabondi Puppets which led into our Saved by Skirts project.

Throughout this academic year our fees have remained the same, ie £40 per child per term: this sum is reduced in cases of hardship. This is considerably lower than any comparable organisation, and only possible because of the generosity of volunteers and staff in carrying many hidden costs (such as office space provision etc).

7. Staffing and Volunteers

The Youth Theatre was fortunate to have retained the services of Penny Jones who worked regularly on a freelance basis as workshop leader and director for the Intermediate and Senior groups. Harry Evans has now stepped down as a Trustee to become more involved with the youth theatre on a professional basis, in particular as technical director and website administrator. Many thanks are due to Harry for his dedication and professionalism. We are also very lucky to have been able to use the services of Abi Johns who has been becoming more involved with the organisation as Assistant Director on a freelance basis. Abi will now be leading the new Junior group on a Saturday morning on a more permanent basis, and we are hoping to recruit and build up all three groups to the membership levels of pre-Covid.

An important contribution to the work of the Youth Theatre is made by volunteers: Management Committee members and some parents provide invaluable front-of-house support during productions: some senior members assist in the work of other groups and

projects; The high level of voluntary assistance not only enables the Youth Theatre to function by providing a wide range of experiences for its members, but also keeps down running costs.

8. Workshop Programme

As outlined above, we managed to hold a variety of fun-filled, theatre based creative Zoom sessions for our members. We were also able to find some new members to join in these sessions and many of these new recruits also joined in with our summer projects and have now signed up to become full members from September onwards.

9. Productions, Performances, and other events

Happily, we were able to proceed with our Murder Mystery entitled ‘The Grate Escape’ in July, as government restrictions were loosened just in time to allow us to go ahead. However, this has been the only indoor performance of the entire twelve months. Other projects with a performance element have included the ‘Saved by Skirts’ project led by Jo Munton of Vagabondi Puppets for which we had received funding two years ago but had to postpone. This fantastic project involved the making and operation of giant, multiperson puppets and was supposed to culminate in a street procession. However, due to the reluctance of the Town Council and the Covid 19 restrictions we had to scale this back to a lower key performance at Guilsfield. We were also, unfortunately, hampered by a participant being tested positive for Covid 19 which meant the project had to halt in the middle of the process and then try to pick up where it left off. It must be said that all the staff and creatives that were involved with this project did their utmost to make sure it was as creative, fun, beneficial and inclusive as it possibly could be in the circumstances, and the feedback from participants and their families was excellent.

Following on from Saved by Skirts were two inclusive weekends which was funded by the Powys County Council Summer of Fun fund. These drama and play days were led by Penny and Jo Munton of Vagabondi Puppets and involved art and crafts as well as drama skills. As the funding had included the provision of healthy snacks and drinks as well as all materials, it was a truly

Trwy gydol y flwyddyn academaidd hon mae ein ffioedd wedi aros yr un fath, h.y. £40 y plentyn y tymor: gostyngir y ffi hon mewn achosion o galedi. Mae hyn yn is o lawer nag unrhyw sefydliad tebyg, a diolch yn unig i haelioni gwirfoddolwyr a staff sy’n gofalu am lawer o’r costau cudd (fel darparu lle mewn swyddfa ac ati) y mae hyn yn bosibl.

7. Staffio a Gwirfoddolwyr

Roedd y Theatr Ieuenctid yn ffodus i gadw gwasanaethau Penny Jones, fu’n gweithio’n rheolaidd ar ei liwt ei hun fel arweinydd gweithdai a chyfarwyddwr ar gyfer y grwpiau Canolradd a Hŷn. Mae Harry Evans bellach wedi rhoi’r gorau i fod yn Ymddiriedolwr er mwyn gallu cymryd mwy o ran gyda’r theatr ieuenctid ar sail broffesiynol, yn benodol fel cyfarwyddwr technegol a gweinyddwr gwefan. Diolch o galon i Harry am ei ymroddiad a’i broffesiynoldeb. Rydyn ni’n ffodus iawn hefyd i fod wedi gallu defnyddio gwasanaethau Abi Johns sydd wedi dod i chwarae rhan fwy yn y sefydliad fel Cyfarwyddwr Cynorthwyol yn gweithio ar ei liwt ei hun. Bydd Abi nawr yn arwain y grŵp Iau ar fore Sadwrn ar sail mwy parhaol, ac rydyn ni’n gobeithio recriwtio ac adeiladu’r tri grŵp i lefelau aelodaeth cyn Covid.

Mae gwirfoddolwyr yn gwneud cyfraniad pwysig at waith y Theatr Ieuenctid: mae aelodau’r Pwyllgor Rheoli a rhai rhieni’n darparu cymorth blaen tŷ gwerthfawr yn ystod cynyrchiadau; bu rhai o’r aelodau hŷn yn cynorthwyo â gwaith grwpiau a phrosiectau eraill; mae graddau helaeth y cymorth gwirfoddol yn galluogi’r Theatr Ieuenctid i weithredu trwy ddarparu ystod eang o brofiadau i’w haelodau, ac mae hefyd yn cadw costau rhedeg yn is.

8. Rhaglen Gweithdai

As outlined above, we managed to hold a variety of fun-filled, theatre based creative Zoom sessions for our members. We were also able to find some new members to join in these sessions and many of these new recruits also joined in with our summer projects and have now signed up to become full members from September onwards.

9. Cynyrchiadau, Perfformiadau a digwyddiadau eraill

Yn ffodus, roedden ni wedi gallu parhau gyda’n Dirgelwch Llofruddiaeth o’r enw ‘The Grate Escape’ ym mis Gorffennaf gan fod cyfyngiadau’r llywodraeth wedi’u llacio jest mewn pryd i ni allu fwrw ymlaen â’r digwyddiad. Fodd bynnag, dyma’r unig berfformiad dan do a fu yn ystod y deuddeg mis cyfan. Roedd prosiectau eraill lle roedd yna elfen o berfformio’n cynnwys y prosiect ‘Saved by Skirts’ dan arweiniad Jo Munton o Bypedau Vagabondi, prosiect yr oedden ni wedi derbyn arian ar ei gyfer ddwy flynedd yn ôl ond wedi gorfod ei ohirio. Roedd y prosiect gwych hwn yn cynnwys gwneud a gweithio pypedau anferth, amlberson a’r bwriad oedd ddod â phethau i’w hanterth mewn gorymdaith stryd. Fodd bynnag, oherwydd cyndynrwydd y Cyngor Tref a chyfyngiadau Covid-19 bu’n rhaid i ni gyfyngu ar y bwriad a chynnal perfformiad ar raddfa lai yng Nghegidfa. Yn anffodus hefyd, fe gawson ni’n rhwystro i raddau pan gafodd un oedd yn cymryd rhan brawf positif am Covid-19 a olygodd y bu’n rhaid atal y prosiect yng nghanol y broses ac yna ceisio ailddechrau lle roedd pethau wedi’u gadael. Mae’n rhaid dweud bod yr holl staff a phobl greadigol a oedd yn rhan o’r prosiect hwn wedi gwneud eu gorau glas i sicrhau bod y cyfan mor greadigol, mor hwyliog, mor fuddiol a chynhwysol â phosibl dan yr amgylchiadau, ac roedd yr adborth oddi wrth y rheini a gymeroadd ran a’u teuluoedd yn ardderchog. Ar ôl ‘Saved by Skirts’ cafwyd dau benwythnos cynhwysol wedi’u hariannu gan gronfa Haf o Hwyl Cyngor Sir Powys. Penny a Jo Munton o Bypedau Vagabondi oedd yn arwain y diwrnodau drama a chwarae hyn a oedd yn cynnwys celf a chrefft yn ogystal â sgiliau drama. Gan fod yr ariannu’n cynnwys darparu byrbrydau iach a diodydd yn ogystal â deunyddiau, roedd yn brofiad gwirioneddol gynhwysol ar gyfer y rheini a oedd yn cymryd rhan a gwnaethon nhw fwynhau’r profiad yn fawr.

inclusive experience for the participants who thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

10. Collaborations, Publicity and Networking

Due to its longevity, the youth theatre has built up over the years not only an enviable reputation (it is considered a major youth arts provider for North Powys by the Arts and Culture Department of Powys County Council).

With the advent and progress of technology, and the help and expertise of staff and volunteers, we now have several social media platforms from which to promote the organisation. This includes Instagram, Facebook Twitter, and a regularly updated website (www.montgomeryshireyouththeatre.co.uk) and business cards with a QR code that will take you through to the website when scanned on a phone.

11. Conclusion

This report comes at the end of a second very challenging year for our beloved organisation. Nevertheless, with the much-appreciated help of all our funders and the input of staff, trustees, volunteers, outside agencies, professional creatives, families and friends we have managed to ride this very unpredictable storm and envisage being able to do so into the foreseeable future.

Plans for the next 12 months include the prospect of a major production which will be devised by the Seniors, entry into the Drama Association of Wales One Act Play Festival, regular workshops, and additional projects as well as our fundraising events including the much in demand Murder Mystery 2022. Many thanks go out to all those involved with making our organisation a continued success and a much needed and appreciated asset in our rural community.

Jane Howells Chair

10. Cydweithrediadau, Cyhoeddusrwydd a Rhwydweithio

Gan fod y theatr ieuenctid yn hirhoedlog, mae wedi meithrin enw da i’w chwennych dros y blynyddoedd (mae Adran y Celfyddydau a Diwylliant Cyngor Sir Powys o’r farn ei bod yn ddarparwr celfyddydau ieuenctid o bwys ar gyfer Gogledd Powys).

Gyda dyfodiad a datblygiad technoleg, a chymorth ac arbenigedd y staff a gwirfoddolwyr, mae gennyn ni nawr nifer o blatfformau cyfryngau cymdeithasol lle y gallwn ni hybu’r sefydliad. Mae’r rhain yn cynnwys Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, a gwefan sy’n cael ei diweddaru’n rheolaidd (www.montgomeryshireyouthtyeatre.co.uk) a chardiau busnes â chod QR a fydd yn mynd â chi drwodd i’r wefan pan fydd yn cael ei sganio ar ffôn.

11. Casgliad

Daw’r adroddiad hwn ar ddiwedd ail flwyddyn heriol iawn i’n sefydliad hoff. Er hynny, gyda chymorth a werthfawrogwyd yn fawr oddi wrth ein harianwyr i gyd a mewnbwn y staff, ymddiriedolwyr, gwirfoddolwyr, asiantaethau allanol, pobl greadigol, teuluoedd a ffrindiau, rydyn ni wedi llwyddo i oroesi’r storm hollol anrhagweladwy hon ac rydyn ni’n rhagweld y gallwn ni wneud hynny yn y dyfodol hefyd.

Mae cynlluniau ar gyfer y 12 mis nesaf yn cynnwys y posibilrwydd o gynhyrchiad mawr wedi’i ddyfeisio gan y rhai Hŷn, ymgais ar gyfer Gŵyl Ddrama Un Act Cymdeithas Ddrama Cymru, gweithdai rheolaidd, a phrosiectau ychwanegol yn ogystal â’n digwyddiadau codi arian, gan gynnwys Dirgelwch Llofruddiaeth 2022 y mae galw mawr amdano. Diolch o galon i bawb sydd wedi cyfrannu at wneud ein sefydliad yn llwyddiant parhaus ac yn ased mawr ei angen ac a werthfawrogir yn fawr yn ein cymuned wledig.
