Para 1.20 We had a remarkable year of 2022 – 2023.
Here are what we had done and achieved.
All our daily activities were
running in normal such as Tai Chi class,
Dancing Class, Mahjong game, Singing
Karaoke and Table Tennis. We also have
different kinds of parties and celebrations in
place,
The dancing teams had several
performances reaching the local
communities and fund raising activities. They
took part in the Revel Puck Circus ,
organised by Derby Theatre, at Markeaton
Park with over 200 audiences watching.
They performed at the fundraising activities
for the Stroke unit of local hospital as well as
at the Royal Derby Hospital.
We successfully extended our Tai Chi class
to the black community. One of them
experienced the positive effect of practicing
Tai Chi and therefore invited her friends to
join.
We organised health talk with Royal Derby
hospital research unit to talk about clinical
trial and research. Our centre representative
became the community champion to help to
promote clinical trial within our community.

We took part in the East to East project organised by Cosmopolitan Arts which was a thorough research about Chinese migrants’ history and experience moving into East Midland. A Chinese New Year parade and celebration activities were also organised in Derby city centre for the local community. We also assisted the Derby YMCA to decorate their centre for Chinese New Year celebration and conducted a talk about the history and customs of how Chinese people celebrating their Chinese New Year at home. Our team of volunteers built a colourful and amazing traditional Chinese archway in front of the main building which attracted a lot of people taking photos from outside. We took part in the Derby Season of Lights organised by Surtal Arts which featured lantern parade at the city centre and Tai Chi performance by our Tai Chi team. From 2023, all members over 70 years old will enjoy luncheon club for free. Luncheon Club provides healthy traditional Hong Kong meal to members and non-members every 2 months. The Chinese school started again from September 2022. To start with, the number of students was not as many as used to be but the numbers were picking up during the terms. Many members were coming back to the centre and seeking for interpretation and translation assistance. The most popular services were passport renewal, bus pass application, driving licence renewal, pension enquiries and using of smart phone. Without the supports of all our working committee members and members, we wouldn’t have done it. We would like to thank you to those who had contributed, donated, participated and volunteered.
