Tredegar Town Band Society Trustee’s Report
The trustees are pleased to present their annual Trustee's report together with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31st December 2024. The financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011 and Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice.
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives
Provide tuition, instruments and music for members totalling 35 people in the Gwent Valleys. Take part in concerts, competitions, local processions, carnivals and other fundraising activities in the local community and more widely.
Activities
The band had a strong year of musical progress, on and off the performance stage.
In April, the band represented Wales in the European Brass Band Championships, placing fourth in a field of 12 strong competitors from across the continent, while performances at the British Open, National Championships and Brass in Concert saw the band consistently place among the top six.
October saw the band return to the recording studio, this time with Trombone soloist Peter Moore. The disc pays tribute to his brass band heritage and drew great acclaim, with Jeremy Nicholas of Gramophone saying of the band, “This the first time I have heard the Tredegar Band and I hope it won’t be the last.”
The end of 2024 was marked by the untimely passing of Jonathan Bound. Not only was Jon the band’s Second Baritone player, but he was a key member of the band’s management team, and has been an integral part of the band’s success since 2007. More than this, Jon was a larger than life character within the band and made a huge impression on everyone he came in contact with.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
The statement of financial activities shows that there is a deficit of income over expenditure for the year of £1,555. At the end of the year the unrestricted fund reserves carried forward are £24,427.
RESERVES POLICY
The band only has one unrestricted reserve for the activities of the charity.
