Provide tuition, instruments and music for members totalling 35 people in the Gwent Valleys. Take part in concerts, competitions, local processions, carnivals and other fund raising activities in the local community and more widely.

The band has continued to provide free musical tuition and instruments to its members during the year in an area that is one of the most deprived in Wales. It has been involved in numerous concert and fund raising activities on behalf of other charitable organisations – in particular the Velindre Cancer Centre.

Section D Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

Covid 19 and the lockdown restrictions again hampered the operations of the band particularly during the early part of the year. The band is again grateful to the Arts Council Wales and many private businesses and individuals who continued to support them during this period and enable the fixed costs to be met.

In the summer, the band was able to recommence its recording activities with the World of Brass at the Brangwyn Hall. Later in the year we performed concerts with the Amersham band and with the students at Ardingly College – in addition to appearing at the Brass in Concert Championships in Gateshead.

The band also made preparations ahead of the band representing Wales at the European Championships in April 2022.
