How the charity is constituted The Fourth Dimension Trust is a Company limited by guarantee. It is also registered with the Charity Commission as a Charity. Membership of the Fourth Dimension Trust is drawn from twelve churches serving Huyton, a district of the Borough of Knowsley in Merseyside. Trustee selection and Trust management Our member churches may nominate annually up to two representatives to serve on our Council of Management. Up to four additional Members of Council may be elected by Trust members at our Annual General Meeting. Our current practice is that each member of our Council of Management is normally registered both as a Charity Trustee and a Company Director. The Council of Management normally meets six to eight times per year to administer the day-to-day activities of the Trust. Consideration of major risks Matters relating to Health and Safety Issues, Fire Service requirements, Trading Standards’ regulations and other risks related to our principal activities are undergoing review-both internally and with outside advisors.
Objectives and activities
Objects as set out in the governing document “By such means as are charitable to promote in an ecumenical spirit the Christian faith in England and overseas and in particular the relief of poverty, distress and sickness. Our aid shall be directed first to the developing countries and the third world, secondly to the Huyton and Merseyside area and subsequently to any area of special need.” Main activities in relation to these objectives Our funds are raised almost entirely through the sale of goods and refreshments at our Charity Shop located in Huyton village. All who work in our shop are members of our Trust giving their time as volunteers. The principal donation we make each year goes via Christian Aid towards water projects in Africa. Smaller donations are made to a range of local charities as nominated by our volunteerss who work in the shop.

NOTES TO FINANCIAL STATEMENT – YEAR ENDED 31[ST] MARCH2023
1. Accounting Policies
-
a) Historical Cost Convention: These financial statements have been prepared under the Historical Cost Convention and in accordance with the Companies Act 2006, applicable accounting standards and the Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting for Charities 2005.
-
b) Fixed Assets and Depreciation: The normal policy of the charity has been to capitalize all fixed assets costing over £100 and to provide for depreciation on those assets so as to write off their cost over a period of five years on a straight-line basis. Prior to 2006 improvements to leasehold property were capitalized and written off on a straight-line basis over seven years. However, as part of the move of premises in 2007 the view was taken, in view of the mixture of repair, improvement and fixtures/fittings involved, to follow the practice adopted in 2006 for shop front renewal and necessary health and safety work and to write off all expenditure to Income and Expenditure Account in the then current year.

The money was paid direct to the appropriate national appeal account at the bank or through Christian Aid. The cash is recorded but does not form part of the Fourth Dimension Trust’s financial statements.
4. Taxation
As a charity, Fourth Dimension Trust is exempt from tax on income and gains falling within section 505 of the Taxes Act 1988 or section 286 of the Taxation of Chargeable Gains Act 1992 to the extent that these are applied to its charitable objects. No tax charges have arisen in the charity.

Basic costs for postage and office routine are receipted and claimed under 'Admin' in Expenditure.
