1. All items of income and expenditure are respectively credited or debited to the accounts when credited or debited to the Group's bank account.

2. The Cost of Sales in 2021-22 is zero as we planned for (and made) few sales during the forced closure of the Heritage Centre for much of the season, ~~and so p~~ urchased no new stock.

3. Subscriptions include one new life member, G.Wilson, to whom the group is most grateful.

4. The Group has been fortunate this year to receive a legacy of £25,000 from the estate of our founder and president, P.Jordan, which makes the Group financially secure and protects us against further expenditure that is likely to be needed on our signal box to cope with the inevitable deterioration of the building over time. The Group also wishes to acknowledge all the members and visitors who have made donations this year, including generous gifts from M.B.Handscomb, M.Ratcliff and I.Wannell, and a further donation from Crewe Heritage Trust towards our cost of insurance. The Group also thanks all those members who habitually top up their annual subscription with a donation.

5. Maintenance of the signal box has re-started after none could be undertaken last year, when the Heritage Centre was closed by Covid restrictions. The principal maintenance job undertaken this year has been the painting of the signal box exterior, the adjoining hut, and part of the GUV.

6. 'Other' costs are the general costs of opening the box to visitors, the largest of which is usually fuel for the stoves, and with the Centre closed for most of the season, there were no such costs this year or last.

7. Stock is valued at nil. Exeter West Signal Box and all associated fixtures and fittings are valued at nil.

## **Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of the Exeter West Group on the Accounts for the year ended 5[th] April 2022**

I report to the Trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 5[th] April 2022.

## **Responsibilities and basis of report**

As the charity trustees of the Trust, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act”).

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and, in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

## **Independent examiner’s statement**

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in any material respect:

- Accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Act, or

- The accounts do not accord with the accounting records

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
