The trustees who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006,
present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 August 2025.
The trustees have adopted the provisions of AccoL*nting and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of
Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the
Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 (effective I
January 20191.
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Significant activrties
The principal artivity of the company continues to be to work for the advancement of the education
of the public in appreciation of the art and science of music by aiding and fostering the orthestral
training of young musicians from within the City of Sheffield and surrounding areas.
STRucfuRE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Governing document
The charity is controlled by its governing document, its memorandum and articles, and constitutes a
limited company, limited by guarantee, as defined by the Companies Act 2006.
The Friends of the City of Sheffield Youth Orchestra Limited is an incorporated body and was
established on 31 December 1982. Its registered charity number is 514479

The trustees have a duty to identify and review the risks to which the charity is exposed and to
ensure appropriate controls are in place to provide reasonable assurance against fraud and error. We
consider that the systems we have in place to mitigate such risks appear to be adequate in normal
circumstances.

ORCHESTRA LIMITED for the purposes of cornpany lawl are respOns￿bIe for preparing the Report of
the Trustees and the financial statements in accordance with applic3ble law and United Kingdom
Accounting Standards Iunited Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).
Company law requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give
true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charitable company and of the incoming resources
and application of resources, including the income and expenditure, of the charitable company for
that period. In preparing those financial statements, the trustees are required to
select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistentlv,.
observe the methods and principles in the Charity SORP,.
make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent,.
prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the
charitable company will continue in business.
The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable
accuracy at any time the financial position of the charitable company and to enable them to ensure
that the financial statements comply with the Companies Act 2006. They are a150 responsible for
safeguarding the assets of the charitable company and hence for taking reasonable steps for the
prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

Independent examiner's report to the trustees of THE FRIENDS OF THE CITY OF SHEFFIELD YOUTH
ORCHESTRA UMITED I'the Company'l
I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Company for the year
ended 31 August 2025.
Responsibilities and basi5 of report
As the charity's trustees of the Company land also it5 directors for the purposes of company law) you
are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the
Companies Act 20061'the 2006 Act'l.
Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the Company are not required to be audited under Part
16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of mv
examination of your charity's accounts as carried out under Section 145 of the Charities Act 2011
I'the 2011 Act'l. In carrying out my examination 5 have followed the Directions given by the Charity
Commission under Section 145151 Ibl of the 2011 Act.
Independent examiner's statement
I have completed my exarnination. I confrrm that no matters have come to my attention in
connection with the examinatiofi giving me cause to believe-
accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by Section 386 of the 2006
Act; or
the accounts do not accord with those records; or
the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of Section 396 of the 2006 Art other
than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as
part of an independent examination,. or
the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement
of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by chorities lapplicable to charities preparing
their accounts in accordante with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic
of Ireland IFRS 10211.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matter5 in connection with the examination to
which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the
accounts to be reached.

The members have not required the company to obtain an audit of its financial statements for the
year ended 31 August 2025 in accordance with Section 476 of the Companie5 Act 2006.
The trustees acknowledge their responsibilities for
ensuring that the charitable company keeps accounting records that comply with Sections 386 and
387 of the Companies Act 2006 and
preparing financial statements which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charitable
company as at the end of each financi31 year and of its surplus or deficit for each financial year in

ACCOUNTING POLICIES
Basi5 of preparlng the flnanclal ststements
The financial statements of the charitable companyi which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102,
have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP IFRS 1021 'Accounting and Reporting by
Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in
accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS
1021 (effective l January 20191,, Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard
applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland, and the Companies Act 2006. The financial statements
have been prepared under the historical cost convention.
Income
All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has entitlement to
the funds. it is probable that the income will be received and the amount Can be measured reliably.
Expenditure
Liabilities are recognlsed as expendlture as soon as there is a legal or construrtive obligation
committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that 3 transfer of economic benefits will be
required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is
atcounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost
related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have
been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.

Overview
The Friends of City of Sheffield Youth Orchestra IFCSYOI exists to promote and
support the City of Sheff ield Youth Orchestra {CSYO). CSYO is one of the UK'S
leading independent youth orchestras. A vibrant programme of music making
opportunities facilitates the development of vital musical and life skills for the
members. The musical environment is challenging, designed to inspire and equip
young musicians with the skills to progress in their chosen study and career. For
the past forty-five years, this unique youth orchestra has led in the region,
establishing a model for exceptional youth music making. CSYO broadens
horizons, unlocks creativity and gives young people a voice.
The CSYO yearly programme provides high level orchestral and instrumental
coaching from well-regarded professional musicians of national standing, a
nurturing and confidence building social environment, workshops in the key
aspects of musicality and personal well-being (such as Alexander Technique,
improvisation. public speaking, Dalcroze) and unparalleled musical experiences.
There is no other organisation in existence in South Yorkshire that offers the kind of
experience and training provided by CSYO. Orchestral performance opportunities
in Sheff ield are plentifulfor beginner musicians, however, are noticeably scarce for
those at higher ability levels. CSYO helps to fill this gap in education by offering an
advanced level of musical tuition for young people. CSYO develops skills that have
helped members embarking on a wide range of professions. We have a
membership of around sixty-five players aged between thirteen and Menty-one
from a diverse range of backgrounds throughout Sheffield and the surrounding
areas.

The Future
The focus for the immediate
future is to make the annual
programme budget balance
going forward into the next
f inancial year. A signif icant
financial gift had previously
allowed us to plug the annual
deficit and avoid passingthe
full cost on to members,
families. The gift has now been
spent down, and the Trustees
have agreed to not eat any
further into our reserves.
Faced with a backdrop of
constantly rising costs, the
Trustees have agreed a reduced
budget for 2025-26 programme
to ensure that the orchestra
may continue to operate in a
financiallyviable way.
Autumn 2025 saw the inaugural
CSYO alumni network event.
The alumni network is hoped to
bring financial support and
further professional expertise
to FCSYO.
The Trustees are in the process
of engaging with professional
fundraisers, with an aim of
returningto a larger budget
programme for the 2026-27
season.
