Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of The Bentley Operatic Society

I report on the accounts ofthe Trust for the year ended 31 July 2025, which are set out on pages 3 and 4.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 (2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act), and that an independent examination is needed.

Basis of independent examiner’s report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeing explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a “true and fair view” and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

Report of the Trustees for the year ended 31% July 2025

We have changed the dates of our financial year to bring it in line with our performance timetable. As a result the accounts for this year cover the period 1 April 2024 to 31 July 2025.

Structure, governance and management

The trust is an unincorporated trust and is governed by its constitution adopted 24 May 1983, with the most recent amendment 15 July 2025 and is a registered charity, number 513983.

Objectives, Activities and Public Benefit

The objective of the trust is to educate the public in the operatic arts, to further the development of public appreciation in the said arts.

The trustees confirm that they have referred to Charity Commission guidance on Public Benefit when reviewing aims and objectives and when reviewing plans for the future.

Main activities and achievements

The Company produced Oklahoma! which was performed at the Capstone Theatre between 26" and 29% June 2024. In the Autumna series of four concerts were put on in November and December 2024. Three of this were for our own funds and one for a Church we have a connection with. Between 7" and 9" February 2025, a small scale production of Iolanthe was put on. The most recent activity was the company’s performance of Evita which was performed at the Capstone Theatre between 25 and 28" June 2025.

Financial Review

The trust has healthy reserves as at 31% July 2025, which are sufficient to meet the charity’s objectives. We are confident therefore that we will continue to operate for the foreseeable future.
