Teesside Federation of Women’s Institutes Trustees’ Annual Report For the year ended 31 December 2025

The Trustees present their report together with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 December 2025. The Trustees have adopted the provisions of the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) “Accounting and Reporting by Charities” (FRS 102) in preparing the annual report and financial statements of the charity.

Charitable Objectives

The main purposes of the Women's Institute organisation are:

'Sustainable development' means a development which meets the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.

The Women's Institute organisation seeks to give women the opportunity of working together through the Women's Institute organisation in their communities, of developing their capacity and skills and of putting into practice those ideals for which the Women's Institute organisation stands.

Achievements and Performance

The health and wellbeing of our members was promoted via our Mindfulness Day, weekly walking netball and heritage walk around South Gare plus a talk taking a humorous look at menopause entitled "Dramas in Pyjamas"

Competition is always popular with the jigsaw competition repeated and the ever popular quizzes held on two separate evenings. A new introduction was our Murder Mysteries with afternoon tea which we held twice, with greater success in finding the murderer second time round. Another new and popular event was our Car Treasure Hunt.

We held several successful workshops including making a sea glass picture and card at Ormesby Library and a new six week crochet class held in our office.

Visits included The Cone Exchange in Harrogate and a guided tour of Bradford, City of Culture for 2025, and utilising the minibus of a new partnership with Tees Valley Rural Action.

Our Annual Lunch at a new venue of Whinstone View was excellent and Carol Tetlow, a retired GP speaking about her experiences sad and funny. The Annual Council Meeting was well attended with some interesting speakers, Teresa Cave and Elsa Taylor, a prison visitor.

Our Annual Holiday took us to Scotland where we joined forces for an evening with Lanarkshire Federation, who provided some wonderful entertainment.

Teesside Federation of Women’s Institutes Notes to the Accounts For the year ended 31 December 2025

Accounting Policies

The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102), the Charities Act 2011 and General Accepted Practice. The financial statements comprise a statement that shows the charity's income and expenditure, a statement that summarises the charity's assets and liabilities and related notes.

Funds

General funds are unrestricted funds which are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the charity. Designated funds comprise unrestricted funds that have been set aside by the trustees for particular purposes. Restricted funds are donations which are to be used in accordance with specific restrictions imposed by donors; they include donations received from appeals for specific activities or projects.

The closing balance of £49.84 from Nunthorpe WI, that closed in 2023, is still held by Federation until three years have passed. However, the closing balances of £346.37 from Hartburn Afternoon WI and £312.57 Eaglescliffe WI have been held since their closures in 2021; and Yarm WI, £24, held since 2019, are now available to be used by Teesside Federation WI for the benefit of all members.

In May 2024 a resolution was passed, as a result of a consultation with members at our Annual Council meeting, for the Denman Travel Fund £1,272, to be now used to 'support the educational activities of the federation and/or branches of the WI for the benefit of WI members of Teesside Federation of Women's Institutes in accordance with the object of the body corporate called the National Federation of Women's Institutes of England, Wales, Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man'.

Independent examiner’s report to the trustees of Teesside Federation of Women’s Institutes

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of Teesside Federation of Women’s Institutes for the year ended 31 December 2025 which are attached to this report.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in a full audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the accounts.

Independent examiner’s statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

  1. Accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of the Act; or

  2. The accounts do not accord with the records

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
