Policy on grant making Para 1.38 To achieve our public benefit objective, we
make grants to a wide variety of charities
and good causes, as recommended by the
Rotary Club of Hebden Bridge Grants
Committee, who consider and investigate
requests for assistance and make
recommendations on beneficiaries for
grants. Their recommendations are
approved at duly constituted meetings of the
Rotary Club of Hebden Bridge.
We also assist in co-ordinating and
managing other events in the local area,
working in conjunction with the Local
Councils & other Rotary Clubs. Examples of
this are the Light Up the Valley, Rush
Bearing and British Legion Poppy Appeal
events, which generate substantial footfall
into the area, involve local community
centres, groups & schools – as well as
generating income for shops & businesses in
the area.

the local population and by attracting visitors
from outside our local area whose spending
benefits the local economy.
Contribution made by
volunteers
Para 1.38 We are entirely dependent on volunteers for
all our fund raising, grant making and
administration. Most volunteers are
members of The Rotary Club of Hebden
Bridge, but we also receive volunteer help
from our recently formed ‘Friends of Rotary

130 volunteers, plus many other members of
our local community.
We would like to put on record our
appreciation for their invaluable help.

Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held
Para 1.22 The Trust relies substantially from two major
annual fund-raising events, with budgeted
costs in the region of £30,000.
As the level of income from each of these
events is heavily dependant on the weather,
a provision in the reserves is made to cover
these costs which may be incurred, but not
recovered, due to poor weather.
A further reserve provision of £10,000 Is
regarded as prudent for the Trust Fund to be
able to react to any unforeseen
circumstances
The Trust has a further £45,000 in reserves
to provide for grants in 2025 -2026 and as a
provision to be able to continue making
grants in the event of reduced income.
