Chairman Introduction and report:

Chris Liversidge welcomed everyone to the meeting. Chris expressed the honour of serving as President for over 16 years, during which he has maintained close ties with our scouting community. Chris once again thanked all our dedicated Leaders for the success of the group. Furthermore, Chris specifically acknowledged Bob Reid who has served as a leader at Addingham Scout Group for many years. His contribution has been invaluable, and his leadership has greatly enriched our community.

Chris thanked attendees for their continued support and dedication to our scouting family, expressing that together we will continue to inspire and nurture the young minds in our community.

Adoption of Revised Constitution

As per the requirements of Scout Association Policy, Organization and Rules (POR) the Group is required to adopt a constitution and record same in AGM minutes.

The meeting was asked if there were any proposed amendments. Nothing was suggested so the meeting was content with rolling the 2024 Constitution into 2025.

Group Lead Volunteer Report

Lisa thanked those attending AGM, particularly parents of young members as this gives an opportunity to update on events of the past year and to highlight events of the coming year.

Bob made the difficult decision to step back from the role of Group Lead Volunteer but will still have an active role within the Scout Group helping out as and when required.

Bob and Julie joined in the Autumn of 2012 as transferees. Bob picked up the role of Group Scout Leader as it was known then, a few months later. Bob has steered the Addingham Scout Group ship for 13 years, having already been a GSL for many years.

Thanks to Bob for his unwavering commitment to the group as GLV over the years. Lee Edwards has also taken a step back from his role as Explorer Team Leader but thankfully Liz Evans has risen to the challenge. Liz has been actively recruiting new volunteers, and we welcome Josh Jones as Explorer Team Member, plus there are more potential volunteers looking to help, so we thank them also for stepping forward.

Sad to say goodbye to Martin Hunter who has been a Scout Team Member for 13 years. Martin is taking a phased step back but still helped this year including coming to Kandersteg International Scout Campsite with a contingent of 51 people this summer. Thank you, Martin, for all your help and support over the last 13 years. Pleased to welcome some more new volunteers who all started in June. We have Jenny Whiteway-Bell, a Beaver Team Member supporting Julie.

Laura Clarke-Whiteley and Eleanor Phillips who have both become a Non-Member Requires Disclosure.

Eleanor Phillips has also kindly offered to become the Group Secretary. Thank you to all those new volunteers: very pleased to have you on board. Not enough volunteers. Desperately in need of an additional Team Member in each Section to volunteer every meeting to help things run smoothly. This could be a person who can attend every meeting, or it could be a group of say four people who rotate. Not massively onerous to become a Team Member, get in touch with Lisa via email on the Wharfedale Scouts website Very worthwhile thing for your community and ultimately can be a very rewarding experience individually. There are opportunities to develop new skills.

Martha Keeble, Oliver Marsh and Sienna Griffin, have been selected to go to Peru with West Yorkshire Scouts next summer and Paul Jennings is the overall Leader in Charge for that trip.

There is a selection day coming up on the 17[th] October for young people wanting to attend the World Scout Jamboree in Poland in 2027 and we have one of our Scouts Toby Crampton trying out to be selected as one of 3 participants from the Wharfedale

District.

Heating installed in the Scout Hut, courtesy of the Parish Council installing new high level radiant panels, which are proving to be extremely effective.

In terms of numbers of young people on the Census last year we had 13 Beavers, 22 Cubs, 26 Scouts, 21 Explorers but no young leaders. Already we are up on these numbers for the coming year.

Financial Report

Alex Crampton presented his report and figures for YE 31/03/2025.

Annual Report Mar25 Final.pdf

The accounts show an increase in income and expenditure due to Kandersteg 2025 Trip and Scare Trail activity.

The group had an overall surplus.

The meeting accepted the Treasurer’s findings.

Leaders Reports

Beavers Section:

Julie reported section of 16 Beavers, 2 Leaders, 1 Young Leader

Autumn term Experiment badge, Thanksgiving, Christmas Craft and ending with the Joint Christmas Party with the Cubs.

Spring term started with Julie off due to injury followed by Teddy Bear's Picnic, Disability Awareness Badge with a brilliant visit from Guide Dogs for the Blind, craft, Saints Valentine, David and Patrick + Shrove Tuesday and Easter crafts. Sadly said "Goodbye" to Emily, who has helped keep the Colony running for the past couple of years.

Summer term St. George, craft and District Parade/Event with the rest of Addingham Scout Group and other Scout Groups from Wharfedale District. Several brave Beavers were our excellent representatives in the Sports competition. VE Day, Gardeners badge (thanks to Stuart Benson who obtained the troughs for us). Covered more meetings with a Scavenger Hunt, Basic Knots and Prep for our Sleepover. Took part in the District Fun Afternoon and Sleepover at Curly Hill campsite in Ilkley (our Beavers were brilliant!). Prep for Gala and then taking part in the procession (with Cubs and Scouts) as Phoenix and Flames (joint 3rd with Guides this year). Explorers badge. Finished the term with Parachute (and other) games thanks to Tilly.

Said goodbye to Bob as a regular helper this term - Lisa added to her workload by helping us out in lots of meetings

Starting Autumn term with new regular volunteer, Jenny. Badges with Health & Fitness and Cooking.

Thanks to Tilly and Martha our Young Leaders - Tilly will stay on for a bit longer but Martha is moving on to other activities. Thanks to other Leaders who have helped this

year. And huge thanks to the parents who have been able to help out with different activities. However still keen to recruit more regular section volunteers to share out planning & prep for meetings and to enable to continue to run our active Beaver colony.

Cubs Section:

Maz reported currently have 28 Cubs.

Over the past twelve months tried to tackle more badges but have concentrated on having fun.

District activities we have taken part in: November - the cooking competition; our team was Adam McTigue, Sam Tordoff and Nancy Pilkington. Did really well working together as a team. February - Quiz, although did not win the Cubs had a fab time.

March - Swimming Gala held at Craven Swimming Pool. Very young team but they did really well. April - St Georges Day Celebrations held at Otley Rugby Club, really good turnout and the weather was great too.

Other activities:

Remembrance Service in the village in November Spring – visit two gorgeous lambs, Cubs were very excited about feeding and cuddling. Thanks to Andrew Hastings for bringing them.

July - Addingham Gala, dressed as Phoenix rising from the flames. The Beavers, Cubs and Scouts did a great job and came second in the parade.

August - Summer camp at Sconce Campsite in Baildon. Theme was Superheroes and lots of activities based around this. Included day trip to Eureka in Halifax and were joined by Matt Carr, which we were very grateful for.

Lorna, Lisa and Liz were all fab at camp as Maz was suffering with a really bad cold/flu during camp and they were great in supporting me. Thanks also to Abigail and Jamie who came as young leaders to help. Smores on a fire, rounders, bivouacing and much more as you will see from the pics after the meeting.

Christmas party with the Beavers which was organised chaos, as usual. And finally, thanks to Lorna and Natalie for helping each week at Cub meeting. Also thanks to Sam Renshaw who has been helping whilst doing his D of E.

Scouts Section:

Paul reported very full scout section with 30 young people on the books with new YP joining just last night. A really busy year with the build up to Kandersteg. One other camp May half term in Waddecar with 16 scouts, lots of activities in some very challenging conditions, putting up tents in gale force winds, regular bouts of heavy rain and out of six tents taken, three leaked, meaning had to abandon camp early due to forecast of more rain the following morning, which ironically meant ended up taking the tents down in the blazing sun..!

Weekly meetings: seem to have done a lot of food-centred activities, with a particularly interesting evening where the room was divided up into four separate areas and the scouts were given a photo of a famous piece of architecture and had to make it out of biscuits, chocolate spread, for the other groups to guess what the structure was, we had the Tower Bridge, Leaning tower of Pisa, Big Ben and the Millennium Dome the latter being a very interesting impressionist piece of art. Had to cancel/rearrange some planned activities, usually due to weather including a trip to REVA.

The Scare trail was well supported by the Scouts and welcome to help at this year’s event on 25[th] /26[th] October.

Term ended with a trip over to Actionzone outdoor Laserquest centre in Harrogate which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Kandersteg was an amazing trip and the feedback has been phenomenal, we will be having a proper showing of all the hours of footage taken while there soon but even with all the stresses, mostly caused by Swiss Air, it was definitely worth it and, as a shameless plug to all the Cubs here tonight, we have already booked for 2028! Huge thanks to Lisa for being 50% of the scout section team and to all the parents who actually turned up for their turn on the parent rota (which we will be starting again) next week!

Explorers Section:

Liz reported numbers have been high, we have had 22 Explorers. Some stayed on to be ready for their trip to Kandersteg, but many have stayed on and a high number of them have since asked about becoming leaders and young leaders. As always, our young people are juggling GCSEs, A’levels, BTECS, City and Guilds, and so on. Sometimes have low numbers and in Summer term meetings are more sporadic but going forward about 14 Explorers and when more join from Scouts hope to grow. This year’s programme included walks, snow skills, a trip to Reva, fire pit nights, Some strong links have been made between the Scouts and Explorers, and the two groups are more connected than ever since Switzerland. Cannot express enough how amazing the Explorers were in their role as patrol leaders, and many made a point of looking out for the Scouts general wellbeing and supporting them in so many more ways than just counting them on and off of trains, buses and planes.

I was gutted when Lee told me he was stepping down but completely understood. He and I started the unit together in 2019 and since then I have come to rely on him massively. He has been the ideas man and the one with the confidence to get the kids out on adventures.

Since he left in July had several offers of help, with two new potential full leaders and several occasional helpers, although there is always room for more full leaders, especially as we like to support each other across the age groups. Julie is coming to help me with our Bake Off next week, Lisa is helping me run a night walk and I will be quizzing the others to find out what special skills they might like to share! By half term I hope to have our two new full leaders in place. With 3 leaders there will be more flexibility as we all have other work and family commitments.

This coming term we are planning to go climbing at the Harrogate climbing wall, Ice skating with the scouts, sailing at Reva, and hopefully a camp in the Spring!
