LINCOLN RECORD SOCIETY TRUSTEES. REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 SULY 2024 President's Introduction The beneficial effects of Nigd Burns generous bequest of 2020 are now being seen in every area of Society activity. Our memorial to Nigels own contribution to local history - The 'New Priorities. programme - was explained in the Report for 2020-21 and what follows is a ommentary on the progress we have made on those priorities during 2023-4. Members will recall that our Councils ambitious Wew Priorities, programme is organised under five headings: l. Immediate issues with our website have now been resolved and we now have a new platforn] offering Society members and collaborators a single hub for accessing searchable digitised versions of previous LRS volumes. The website is now also offering inforn]ation on. and access to, several other activities arising from the New Priorities programme. We owe our Treasurer, Ken Hollamby, a vote of thanks for bringing us expeditiously to thks position. As I observed last year. this represents a major achievement for the Society and we are continuing to see a modest increase in membership numbers as a result, especially amongst institutions and younger researchers. 2. An apparent glimmer of progress in our programme of digitisation of key documents during the early part of 2023 proved to be a mirag< and once again I must report an unsatisfactory position. Neverthdess. The Treasurer. the programme director - Dr Rob Wheeler - and myself have now agreed on a different approach to our contractor, whlch we hope will be more productive. Council will receive a report in October and consider progress. 3. As reported last year. our programme of 'outreach' projects is now being directed by Dr Andrew Walker. He has made an immediate impact with a steady flow of excellent projects designed and implemented during the year. Thank YO Andrew! Following the unexpected hiatus in Newsletter production last year, we have now also seen the first issue published under the direction of Dr Hannah Boston, who has taken over responsibility from Dr Marianne Wilson, who did such a good job for the Society for many years. Officers are very grateful to Dr Boston for having agreed to take-on the editorship of the Newsletter. and we are excited by her plans for further newsletter editions in 2024-5. 4. The Large Grants programme. under the direction of Dr lulian Haseldin4 has also begun to establish a routine during 2023-4. Supported by our speaalist targe Grants Committee (LGC), Dr Haseldine has now established a'pipeline, of projects for consideration, and specific awards made by Council during the year are detailed elsewhere in the Annual ReporL The Society's brave decision to move into offering such major grants has been vindicated by the number and quality of proposals that have come to us this year, whilst the Society's reputation for promoting the study of history within the fornieT Diocese of Lincoln has been greatly enhanced. 5. The Society's programme of Small Grants has also developed very satisfactorily this year, under the direction of our Secretary Paul Dryburgh - as a quick glance at this Report will show. We are now receiving a regular flow of viable proposals that match our criteria and we have come near to spending the entire allocated budget this year. 6. To repeat last year's report: following consultation and discussion with stakeholders, our programme of conservation work on documents has been inextricably tied to projects that assist work under the four previous headings. Where a document forming an integral part of a project progressedlfunded under one of the above work-steams requires conservation
LINCOLN RECORD SOCIETY TRUSTEES, REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 JULY 2024 attention. we will seek to 8rant-aid that conservation work No such documents have been proposed for grant-aid under this heading during the reporting year.
