## BLACKBURN MUSICAL THEATRE COMPANY TRUSTEES REPORT

Charity number 513346

Period covered 1 September 2024 to 1 September 2025

## Charities Aims and Objectives

The object of the society is to educate the public in the dramatic and operatic arts, and to further the development of public appreciation. Our annual musical encourages current members, and new members to take part in the productions, and so provide entertainment and a musical experience to people from the local community and surrounding areas.

## Activities and Achievements

The Blackburn Musical Theatre Company continues to thrive and our current membership is 60 with an age range of 9 to 80 years. In addition a further 15 members of the public support our annual musical production off stage.

In May 2025 our production was Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and this was a huge success with many full houses of 300 plus members of the audience. Also for the first time ever we gave 9 performances instead of the usual 7, including two matinees.

All our performances are supported by excellent sound and lighting engineers as well as a musical director conducting a 12 piece orchestra. Employees of the theatre also help with the production along with the many volunteers who work front of house and behind the bar.

The NODA awards were held in February and we received three awards for Best Male Comedy Actor, Best Male Supporting Actor and Best Programme.

## Financial Review

Beauty and the Beast was a financial success with a profit of £8573 despite the huge costs of the production.

Running costs of the society this year were helped by membership fees, a BDAC grant and donations of £2900. The society remains financially healthy and this provides a great platform for future productions.

Our social committee continue to hold fund raising events for the society including a cake sale, a quiz night, a dinner dance and a football card lotto. A donation was also made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

## Management of the Society

The society holds monthly meetings with the trustees to discuss future events and productions plus a financial update from the treasurer. Unfortunately we lost one member of the trustees, our wardrobe mistress, who sadly passed away after 47 years with the society. There have been three new additions to the society and their details have been recorded in the main document.

## Final Summary

Our finances go towards our annual musical production in May and the general running of the society plus a donation to a charity. Future plans for the society revolve around our next production in 2027 of Kipps plus various fund raising activities by the social committee.
