CHAIR’S REPORT

I recall commenting in my last Report that we had had a “strange” year as we began to embrace lock down and everything that entailed, but over the last year, it seems that “strange” quickly became the norm and although restrictions have eased, and we emerged blinking into daylight, trying to retrieve something of our previous lives, I think caution is going to be on our minds for some time to come.

It is a requirement as part of our charitable status that the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral Choir Association holds an Annual General Meeting, and that meeting should include a Report from the Chair. However, this is difficult when, given the year that we have had, there is very little to report.

Virtual services from the Cathedral continued and were live-streamed on-line, and the Choirs continued to train and sing up until the end of the academic year. Fortunately, the start of the new academic term in September has seen the Choirs return to singing live in the Cathedral, which is where they should be.

The biggest news to report is the restoration of the Cathedral Great Organ – a massive operation, which is being undertaken by Harrison & Harrison Ltd. Terry Duffy has been providing regular updates on progress. It is hoped that the organ will be reinstated to its former glory summer 2022.

Sadly, our newsletter, “Choral Whispers” also became a casualty of the pandemic, as the editor, Jackie Larrosa, who is also the Music Office secretary was furloughed during the lockdown. However, I am delighted to say that she is now back in the Office, and although she is frantically playing catch-up with all the demands of supporting the Music Office, we hope that she may soon be in a position to resurrect the newsletter. This is an important way in which we can stay in contact with our Association members, and we always welcome any communications and contributions from our membership for future editions.

I would like to thank Dr McElroy and Mr Luxton, who have tirelessly risen to the challenge ensuring that the Choristers and Lay Clerks have continued to perform throughout the year. I would particularly like to thank the Association’s Secretary, Jackie Larrosa (another hat she wears!) and the Treasurer, Tony Leo, who have provided so much support, despite the many demands and pressures that the last year has brought.

Christine Nurse JP Chair

TREASURER’S REPORT

The audited accounts to 31 December 2020 are presented in this booklet and have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis.

The past 18 months have been extraordinary in terms of the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact this has had not only on Choir life, but also on the activities of the Choir Association which were entirely paused during this time. As a result of this, there have been significantly fewer financial transactions over the past year.

In overall terms, our accounts remained healthy at the close of 2020.

Anthony Leo

Treasurer

AUDITOR’S REPORT

Auditor’s report to the members of Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral Choir Association (Registered Charity No. 513081) for the year ended 31 December 2020.

In connection with the examination of the above charity’s accounts, no matter has come to attention which gives reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements i) to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 1 of the Charities’ Act 1993 and ii) to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with the requirements of the Act have not been met or iii) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
