ST JOHN’S COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION

- Learn@TheInfo Zone ANNUAL REPORT

It has been a very difficult year 2020 – 2021 for everyone.

We closed down 20[th] March 2020 because of the pandemic and reopened 1[st] September. As we are an Educate Hub we followed the guidance for schools and colleges. The first courses started week commencing 28[th] September when tutors and clients felt safe then increased in number as the weeks passed on. The number of clients attending classes per session has been reduced to 7 or 5, because of social distancing, depending on which classroom being used. Courses running are sign language, English, maths, English language development, reading support, flower arranging, digital drop in, creative writing, wellbeing and mindfulness. We closed for the Christmas break but where not able to open until 30[th] March. Again, this was when tutors and clients felt safe to return. We are open three days a week Tuesday to Thursday. There has been very little use from the public to drop in.

We were hopefully to have a suite of new computers installed, but they have not arrived. The funding became available in January for a new suit of computers but we are still awaiting installation.

On finance we received a grant of £10,000 for the rent and the rates where credited back under the government scheme. In January, I was able to apply for another closure grant of £3.001.

Running costs where lower by £2,500 with reduced electricity costs down £400 but gas was up due to the extended cold winter. Water up, as they did not bill us for one meter last year. Phone cost are down because of falling out with the supplier and disconnected for 5 months.

We now have over 12 months operating funding in the reserves.

I would wish to thank our volunteers who all came back in force last September and where fully open until Christmas.
