The Charity’s Musical Director during this year was Mr. David Young (from 30[th] April 2015).
The objects of the Choir:
The objects of the Choir shall be to educate the public in the arts and sciences, in particular the art and science of music, by the presentation of concerts and other activities.
Although Cardiff Polyphonic Choir is an amateur Choir, it is an organisation which accepts and solicits payments. Professional standards for preparation, learning, rehearsing and performance have therefore continued to be of fundamental importance.
The year 2019-2020
2020 was the year of the global Corona virus pandemic. This resulted in the cancellation of three planned concerts in the 2019-2020 performing year. The choir continued to meet on ‘Zoom’, and recorded a virtual choir recording of Justorum Animae by Welsh composer Richard Vaughan. (Editing Mr D Young. Video Mr T Down)

This was part of a highly successful 3 concert ‘Elijah’ programme. SOS part subsidised venue and soloist costs, and were supported themselves by the Goethe Institut.
In December 2019 the Choir continued the annual tradition of singing carols at Ty Draw Nursing Home, Penylan (no costs relate to this voluntary event)
The choir supported charity ‘The Wallich’ with a Christmas carol concert

Choir members are reminded that they must pay an amount of Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax at least equal to the tax that the Choir reclaims on their subscriptions in the appropriate tax year (currently 25p for each £1.00). If in the future a member’s circumstances change and they no longer pay tax on their income and capital gains equal to the tax that the Choir reclaims, the member should notify the Treasurer that they wish to cancel their Declaration.
Notes On The Accounts:
The legacy expenditure is noted separately in the accounts. In 2019-2020 the recipient of the legacy funded Young Singer’s Bursary was Tomos Jones (Bass). Payments from Easyfundraising and Amazon Smile are noted at £139.57.
Subscriptions were maintained at £165. Members’ donations support previous increases in rehearsal costs. This year the choir was grateful to receive donations totalling £2134.20 towards the cancelled spring concert. This enabled the choir to support the conductor and some of the soloists whose income disappeared due to the pandemic. Gift Aid is claimed on eligible donations.
