Recruitment and Appointment of Truslees
The charf(y ains lo rnainlain its functiong by rKruiling local businéss people and appropriate
individua15 from the loeality who have the necessary skills and loBal knowledge to monitor the financial
position of the chaiity, and lo make the nece55ary provision of accommodation to the residents. The
recruitment of r*w Trusl88s is a matter for the Board of Trust88s, and when vacancies arise, in either
numbers or skill coverage, the Chairman will be asked to approach suitable Candidates frfm the
combined contaets of all current Trustees. Such appointments will bear in mind th8 need to have a
knowledge of the region. an understanding of and ernpathy with Ihg charilable sector, coupled with 8
general recognition of Ihe needs of the residents. None of the Trustees are enlrtkd to, nor rerEived,
any remuneration for their services to the charity during the year. Additionally, no expenses have been
paid to any Trustee.

The Trustees are all familiar with the work of the charity, and new Trustee$ are encouraged lo attend
at the charity's registered off￿e where they are briefed on the aims, objectives and other operation81
mattgTS, in addition lo their role5 and responsibilities.
Risk Management
The Trusteès actwely review th& major rfsks whKh the charity faces on a regular basi$ and believe
that maintaining reserves at curfenl levels, combin8d with an annual review of the controls over key
rinanckal systems. will provide Sufficient resources in the event of advarse Conditions. The Trustees
have alsg examined other operational and business risks faced by the charity and confirm that they
have established systems to mitigate the svJnifKanl risks.
Objectives and activltles
Aclivilie$
Ear$don , Newburn and Shilbottle Almshouse Charity meets thè definition of a public benefit entity
under FRS 102. Theprincipal activty of the Charity is to provide residèntial accommodat￿n for the
poor and naedy residing in or near Earsdon, Newburn and Shilbottle. The Charity owns and maintains
12 adjacent properties in Newburn for which the r8sidents contribute a nominal Week￿ sum to cover
maintenance and running costs.
Achlevgm9nts and performance
DvTing the year, the charity achieved full occup8ncy, wth no voids being experienced. Maintenance
contributions have steadily increased in line with best pradice and now represent adequate cover for
ongoing and routine costs.
Financlal review
The Statement of Financial Activities shows nel incoming resources for the year {before movements in
the market value of inve51menlsl of £22,837 and cumulative reserves lo carry fornard of £462,819.
Th8 Trustees have consklered any majoT risks to which the charity might be exposed in th& near
future, and eonsider that the present level of fiJnding is adequate to support th8 charWs current
operations. The Trustees consider the current financial position of the charty to be good and continue
lo monitor the position to ensure future financK?I posrtion remains Secure.

Shilbottle Almshouse Charity I'lhe association'l for the year ended 31 December 2021.
Reserrfes Policy
The charty's sole purpose is to prov*le accommijdation to qualrfying Almshouse residents, and as
such maintains sufficient liquid fvnds to defray routine maintenance and other running Costs. whilst
m8inlaining suff￿lent longer term investrnenls in approved funds to cover any major caprtal
expenditure. The Tw$te8s consider that operating reserves suffici8nt lo cover these administrative
costs for up to 9 months are sufficient in the context of the charitls current objeclivgs.
Plans for futurg pgriods
There are no plans to expand the activities of the ¢harlty.

As the trustee of the association you are responsibl8 for the preparation of the financial statements in
accordance with the ￿qUIreMents of the Charitigs Act 2011 Ilhe Act,).
I report in respect of my examlnallon of the association's financial slat8mentS Carried out under section
145 of 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applic8ble Directions
given by the Charrty Commission under section 14515}{bl of the Act.

The association is a public be￿fil entity and a registered charty in Englan(i and Wales and 18
unincorporated. The fomial of the financial stslement complies with the Accounting
Requirement5 of the Housing SORP 2014.. Slalement of Recommended Practice for Registered
Social Housing Providers and in Accounting DireclK)n for Private Registered Providers of Social
Housing 2015.

Reporting Sland8rd applicable in the UK and the Republic of Ireland, the Statement of
Recgmrnended Pra¢tiC8 applicable to charilEs preparing their accounts in aCcord￿ce with the
Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 102) (Charities
SORP {FRS 102)) and the Charities Act 2011.

The financial statements have been prepared on the historical wsl basis, as modified by the
revaluation of certain financial assets and liabilitiès and investmanl properties measured at fair

Housing properties
The Almshouses were constructed in the late Nineteenth Century and Ih8r8 is no record of the
original cost and no value is attributed thereto. The Housing Property costs relate to
improvemen15 carried out sinee 1960 which were funded by a Housing Corporation Grant, a
mortgage loan from Housing Corporation secured by a charge on housing. land and buildings
and trom the Almshouses own rèsources. Whilst the prt)perties ara maintsined in a slate of repair
such Ihal their estimated residual value is not less than their improvement cost or carrying
amount, an annual charge for depr8ciation of 1% straight line has provided in line with the
previous year
