Activlties- 2021-22
The Trustees are del￿ttted that 6t was possible lo IK￿ a fuu Festival In 2022 ts the fir8t time
since 2019. Like so many arts bodies. the Festival h&J lo suspend all tts activittes with the
onset of the Covb*19 pandem￿ in 2020. Due to a great deal of hard work by a few core
Individuals, the Committee held three outdooT events in the summer of 2021 supported by
number of free moming (Ymcerts. no indoor evening c¢)ncerts and no art exhibit￿n.
On emerging from the p￿eM￿. the Committee faced a number of thallwy..
the loss from the Commrtlee of some key individuals and other volunteers who had
been central to the delivery of wevious Festivals"
the unavailatMIty of one of the major venues whth had hosted F8str¥al events and
the art exhibrtK)n for many years, namety. Church Strett¢)n Sch￿1,. and
very uncertain environment for the resumption of a major festival including public
readiness to retum to busy events foll￿1ng the pandemic and an impaired economic
situatkTh.
Despite this, the C(Mnmittee dechyed to proceed WKI through very hard work and in
cases, overwork, falling on some key indivhjuals, Festival was held from 23 Juty to
13 August 2022 comprising 12 pai&for events, six free coffe6 concerts, three free organ
fecrtals and an Art Exhibition lasting for two weeks. including three workshops. One event
had to be cancelled as ￿ speaker ￿ a talk Ix¥rtr￿￿ CovwJ-19.
The Exhibition moved to a new venue at the Primary Schcd, the main perfom)ances were
splil between St Laurence's Church arKI the Sifvester Home Institute with one planned for
the Parish Centre. The final concert- held one 7hrek after the end of the main programme of
events- was held at Concord College in A(kn Bumell. The coffee corK&ts continued to be
held in St Laurence's as Was {￿e organ r&*1 with iwo further witsls being held in other
local churches.

A¢hlevements and rforniance
The Committee was very pleased ￿th the recep￿￿1 given to the Festrrfal. There was almost
universal praise for the new venue for the ExhibitK)n which attendees found to be intimate
and engaging. Both the Committee and attendees felt that the qualty of exhibits was really
high.
The use of the SRvester Home Institute for the first time was successfijl alongslde the
established use of St Laurence's Church. There was very positi've feedb8ck for the whle
range of perfomiances on offer whth induded the welkknuwn poet, Rc*3er McGough,
dramas about Virginia Woow and Mary Anning and Concerts featuring higher vows and a
harp, a trxass quartet, a solo p￿nISt and a POl￿e tribute band. The Rozzers.
Given the $I￿hlty reduced capacty overall of the venues used ￿mpar￿lj to earfier years,
attendances were very good. T￿et sales in were strong wtth most sales being
made using the Ticket Source online booktng facilty. It was c￿r that once the word spre&
about the resumption of the Festiv818nd the h￿h qualty ofwhat vias on offer, tickets
continued to be sohd - in many Instan￿ rYJht up unlil the night of pe￿rnan￿. The
Rozz8rs concert and thè Roger MeG￿gh Foety recilal were entirety 80hY out in advance.
The footfall for the Exhibition was slighty than in some earlier years but the volume of
sales was the hghest ever.
There VRS excellent work in generating sponsorship frcyn kJc81 and some other busine89es
and sources and the Committee wishes to thank the following who V￿re Festlval sponsors..
Mr Francis and Mrs Aison Acton, Mrs Meryl Ausb"n. Belved8re Guest Hou8e, Burway Books,

Agents, Victoria House Bed and Breakfast. Th8 support given by the Green Dragon, Litt

programme for 2023 and is actively working t￿ardS that.

The Committee was very pleased to athMie a not surplus on the year of £4251.43. A 8mall
y￿rkIng surplus is essential as the Festival has to meet some ¢osts upfront each year ahead
of generating any inc(￿e. This outtum has led to the reserves ky the Festival standing at
£44,225.32 ccwnpared to £39,973.89 at the end of 2021>21 financial year.
Vthile the Festival beneffts frcm strwJ sponsorship locdly, it does not rety on any grant
