Main Activities and Achievements in the year
The main objective of the Group Executive Committee is to assist the group scout leader and section leaders in meeting the responsibilities of their appointments. It also aims to give support in the achievement of “The Purpose of Scouting”, viz, : to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials, as responsible citizens and members of their local, national and international communities .
To achieve its objective the committee maintains and runs the building, organizes fund raising events, administers the group’s finances, arranges equipment and liability insurance, and assists in the recruitment of leaders and helpers.
At present the group consists of one Squirrel Drey, one Beaver Scout colony, one Cub Scout pack and one Scout troop. Hilton Church Pre School closed in April 2022 and Tindles dance moved to their own premises at Easter 2022. Some new hirers have filled a couple of sessions, but this has had an effect on the building income. Scout and Guide section meetings fill most of the evenings. Scout, Cub and Beaver numbers remained high during the year. The Squirrel Drey opened in September 2022 with 4 new leaders to assist C Hammersley and 20 children. The Heat Pump for the building heating needed a lot of attention during the winter 2021-22 so the decision was made to fit a new unit, completed in Dec 2022. A grant was received from S. Derbyshire District Council allowing us to make a start on the long planned extension, due to be completed by Sept 2023.
The Group is a trust established under its rules, which are common to all Groups. Trustees are appointed in accordance with the Policy, Organisation and Rules of The Scout Association.
The Accounts have been drawn up on the receipts and payments basis, which is consistent with the previous year.
