Farnworth Little Theatre

Registered Charity No 511428

Auditor's Report to the Members and Trustees of Farnworth Little Theatre for the year ended 30* June 2025

T have reviewed the accounts on a prima facie basis from the invoices, bank statements, Nominal Activity Lists, Profit and Loss Account and Balance Sheet provided to me by the Honorary Treasurer,

These include the following accounts:

I have not carried out a full financial audit and have not confirmed that the amounts are correctly attributed to each category, but I have undertaken the following checks:

  1. Checked the debits and credits in the Nominal Activity lists to the debits and credits in the bank statements for the Current account, the Bar account and the Deposit account.

  2. Checked that there are invoices to match the majority of the debit items in the Nominal Activity lists for the Current account and the Bar account. At the time of the audit, some of the bills from Opus/EDF Energy were unavailable, but I can confirm that the amounts appear reasonable and consistent with past expenditure.

  3. Undertaken a visual check of the items in the Nominal Activity lists for the three Cash accounts to ensure they are reasonable and consistent with expected expenditure. I have also checked that the cash amounts paid into the bank appear on the bank statements.

  4. Checked that the difference between the opening and closing bank and cash balances is equal to the net profit of £5,742.77 shown in the Profit & Loss account.

Following these checks, I concur that the income and expenditure shown in the Profit & Loss Account tallies with the bank statements and the Nominal Activity lists, that the Balance Sheet figures are correct and that the net profit for the year of £5,742.77 is correct.

Congratulations on another successful year!

FARNWORTH LITTLE THEATRE TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT 2024/25

Background

Farnworth Little Theatre was established in 1948 with our first main production at the local Coop hall the following year. We moved into the King’s Hall in 1952 then into our current premises a declining Church Army mission, on a long lease in the early 60s. In 1997 an agreement was reached with the Parish Church on a price for the building, and purchase was completed at the end of 2001. The auditorium has been completely refurbished and a disabled toilet installed. Farnworth Little Theatre became a registered charity on 30 June 1981 and has since provided open membership to the people of Farnworth and district for the purpose of educating the public in the art of drama and the furtherance of public appreciation and taste in drama by studying and regularly performing plays of merit in our own permanent theatre.

Summary of the year

Our play selection committee selected a fantastic mix of plays for the past season with a good mix of old, new and thought-provoking plays. Crowd pleasers by Agathie Christie and Noel Coward, some intrigue and thought-provoking stories in | am a Camera, set just before the outbreak of war and the devastation caused by the Aberfan Disaster and the real-life Stories in The Revion Girl. The Father was also well received but unusually low turnout in relation to our other plays, and this has been noticed by other theatres producing the same play, maybe the content? but a great play, nonetheless. Average attendances continue to be high at 89%. With a hardworking technical and backstage crew, an enthusiastic group of front of house volunteers, publicity and not forgetting the actors, next season will be just as successful. Our finances remain in a strong position.

Plans for 2025/26

Our play selection committee have selected a fantastic mix of plays for the coming season with a good mix of old, new and thought provoking plays, A Street Car Named Desire by Tennessee Williams, Bette and Joan by Anton Burge, Strictly Murder by Brian Clemens, Good by C P Taylor and When We Are Married by J B Priestly.

Conclusion

The trustees, having had due regard to the commission’s public benefit guidance are confident that Farnworth Little Theatre is being managed effectively and is fulfilling its’ obligations to our members and the wider community.
