Annual Report 2024-2025
Membership:
Our membership remained steady at just over 60 people, with new members joining to replace those who had left for various reasons. Concerts:
LCS presented two concerts during the period. In December 2024 the concert was entitled A German Christmas and featured a performance of Weihnachtshistorie or The Christmas Story by Heinrich Schütz plus works by Praetorius, Hermann, Vulpius and others. This concert was a collaboration with the English Cornett & Sackbut Ensemble, players of authentic period instruments. In June 2025 the concert was entitled Songs of the Sea and featured works by Elgar, McDowall, Parry, Ayres, Purcell and others. Both concerts were held in St Laurence’s Church, Ludlow.
Activities:
LCS members met weekly for rehearsals during term time. The committee met regularly, on occasions with the Music Director.
The choir held a Christmas social event at the Ludlow Brewery and a summer garden party at the home of a member.
We took a market stall on two occasions to raise funds for the Society, and to raise awareness of our activities.
The Society decided that it was no longer worthwhile retaining a collection of scores and other music and donated the bulk of its stock to the Shropshire Council Music Library service, so that it is now available for other choirs to borrow.
Members also sang Christmas carols in Ludlow town centre in aid of the Ludlow Food Bank.
Highlights:
As always, our concerts, being the main reason for our existence, were the highlights of the year. The opportunity to perform with well-known instrumental ensemble the English Cornett & Sackbut Ensemble was particularly memorable.

The Society is grateful for the support it receives from volunteers, audience members, our Patron and others. The society is also grateful to our Music Director and Deputy Music Director, who have continued to share their consummate professionalism with the Society.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above
charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 31[st] July 20025 DD / MM / YYYY .
- Responsibilities and As the charity trustees of the Trust, you are responsible for the preparation basis of report of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have examiner's statement come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:
