Following 29 very happy years as your committee chairman and now at the age of 89 | am taking the opportunity to retire. This has only been made possible due to David Lister our very experienced committee member agreeing to succeed me. | am very grateful to David and wish him well in taking a job which | have found so very enjoyable. Thank you to all of our members and volunteers for the : support you have given me. This has enabled us to purchase circa £2 million of medical equipment for Darlington Memorial Hospital and to provide volunteer driver transport to some 5,000 patients each year for the past 28 years. | have had the pleasure of working with Chairmen, Chief Executives, Medical staff and administrators of what was Darlington Memorial Hospital and now County Durham and Darlington Foundation Trust without their support | would not have been able to achieve so much. : Over the years of very happy times | have also experienced great sadness of reporting on wonderful volunteers whose life had ended but as | am writing this report no words can express the sorrow | am experiencing at the death of our President for 35 years Mr. Aiasdair MacConachie OBE DL special . Alasdair was a very man who created and managed Sherwood’s a very successful motor dealership but still found time to be active in his role as Vice Lieutenant of County Durham. He worked closely with Darlington Borough Council chairing committees with various responsibilities. But his greatest interest was in the various charities that he supported none more so than this The Friends of Darlington Memorial Hospital. He was always available to lend a helping hand or give advice if we were faced with a difficulty. Alasdair wili be very much missed by so many peopie and charitable groups in Darlington.

The Friends of Darlington Memorial Hospital (Affiliated to Attend) Once 2 : very again | am so very sorry to have to advise you of the death of two of our hard working volunteers. Pat Telfer had for a number of years managed our Baby Shop. Despite being unwell herself she was so committed to her job and was one of the best known faces in Darlington Hospital. Geoff Dauber was our jack of all trades. Jobs ranging from refurbishing benches in the hospital grounds, rebuilding a dolls house to wrapping patients Christmas Presents were all within his compass. Both Pat and Geoff are missed by all of us.

Our oldest working volunteer Lewis Stockill joined our committee 14 years ago as the representative of the Heartbeat Group. He then took a great interest in our baby shop and worked in there for 6 years. During this time he developed a relationship with our volunteer knitters delivering wool to them and collecting the new baby clothes. Although a most active and valuable member of our committee Lewis has not been able to attend recent meetings and has decided to stand down. Lewis will be 94 years old this year and on behalf of our members | thank him for his valued contribution to our work.

Our volunteer car service continues to provide a great service to patients. Sadly we are still having to limit our daily work to a maximum of 700 miles at a cost of £245 which means that on many days we are not able to meet demand. We have 16 volunteer drivers and the service is controlled on a daily basis by Joy McCulloch, Anne Robinson, Colin Weeks and Jeff Simpson with David Lister the main administrator. These can be difficult jobs but very rewarding knowing they are helping so many patients. Our thanks for all that they do.

The Baby Shop at the main entrance of the hospital is now open most week days due to the efforts of Margaret Weeks and Sam Nicholson. Many thanks to them. The profit it makes goes to help fund the Volunteer Car service. Jeanette Smith continues to be involved in much of our work and now has a new assistant in Opeyeme Duntoye. Ope deals with our daily cash flow and banking. Thank you Jeanette and welcome to our team Ope.

Molly Davison who was the Volunteer Organiser for Darlington Memorial Hospital when | became Chairman 29 years ago continues to give her invaluable support as our meeting secretary and this isvery much appreciated.

The remarkable Simon Rossinelli continues as our Treasurer for a 37% year. The work he has done for so many years and the support he provides for everyone is So essential to the smooth running of our charity. Once again our sincere thanks.

For the last time as Chairman| thank all of our volunteers and members for the work that you do and for the support you have given me for the past 29 years.
