Section D Achievements and performance
Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year
2022/23 was a busy, interesting, and enjoyable year at Walmsley.
It was the year we tried to get back to normal and catch up on those things that had had to be left due to the stop start nature of the pandemic and its related constraints.
Trustees held a series of weekly meetings at the beginning of the year and reviewed policies, had a good hard look at things we needed to tackle and came up with a list of projects to take us through the year and designed to bring us back to normal.
Those projects included some major maintenance works: We tackled the raining in problem in the porch by having the roof repaired and the whole of the front of Chapel repointed and the bell tower repaired, and our foundation stone renewed. We have resurfaced the drive and undertaken a tree survey which unfortunately identified a number of trees suffering from Ash die back and which are now in a programme for removal.
We also decided to renew and modernise our website, which is currently work in progress, and to review our governance system.
A huge project for us has been the graveyard reconciliation which has involved mapping the whole of our graveyards and memorial gardens and updating our records including checking and recording all inscriptions on the gravestones. This information is currently being collated into one document which we intend to link to our website, so it is more widely accessible. We have also discovered that we have a World War 2 War Grave and are in the process of

obtaining a promotional sign from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Throughout the year, we have benefited from a range of visiting preachers bringing a variety of views and thought-provoking services.
We have also welcomed, with open arms, friends from Bank Street Chapel which sadly had to close its doors this year. We consider ourselves very fortunate to now include several members from Bank Street in the Walmsley family.
We have reinstated several of our social activities, ranging from occasional lunches after the Service, to our well attended Christmas Fair. We are also happy to continue host the Incredible Egerton group which maintains a community garden in the Chapel grounds and runs the ever-popular Nature Café, open weekly to the general public.
Overall, a very productive and positive year which has seen us very much on the way back to normal, expanding the congregation in our beautiful historic Chapel, whilst still retaining our unique caring atmosphere which is the “Walmsley Family”.
