The trustees present their annual report and financial statements for the year ended 31 March 2024,
The financlal statements have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out in note 1 to the
financial Statements and comply with the charity's Igoveming documentj. the Charities Act 2011 and "Accounting
and Reporting by Charities.. Stalement of Recommended Practice applicable lo charities preparlng thelr accounts in
accordance wilh the Financlal Reporting Standard applicable in Ihe UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 102)
(effective 1 January 2019).
Objectlves and acllvltlès
The charitable objects were amended and approved by the Charity Commi85ion on 7 February 2024.
The revised objects of the charity are:.

The trustees have paid due regard to 9uidan¢e i88ued by the Charity Commission In deciding what activities the
charity should undertake.
A¢hlevements and performance
Slgnificant ac¢ivitles and 8chl&vementS 8g8inst objectives
We are pleased to report that the Centre has beèn well used by many groups providing our clients wilh recreation
and lelsure time occupations to improve their quality of life. Thanks to our team of volunteers we have Introduced
more social aclivlties cn a Saturday. The Centre is now designated as being for the elderly and less able and lonely.
The Truslees took a Stand at an exhibition for the over 55's In Calderdale, showing the facilities and actlvlties
available at Ihe Centre, as well as advertislng locally. We also contlnued to support the free concert for the Young at
Heart.
The appearance of our building from the outslde has been improved by the renew81 of the vamlsh on our hard wood
windows and al the same Ilme some of our inside doors. The boundary haG been fenced in, the walk way al the side
and back have been concreted, making easy aGces5ibllity all round the building. The garden has benefltted by a
volunteer coming on a weekly vi8it, weather permitted to keep it free from getting over grown.
Our plans submStted last year to redesign our kitchen as the gas cooker and hood did not comply wllh health and
safely. After various quotes were recelved a contractor was chosen and Ihe work completed July 2023, During
September we were inspected by the food hygiene inspectorate and given 5 slar5.
We have lost of our volunteers, our luncheon dub manager Michele. retlred due to ill health, our finance officer
Jean and Chris our caretaker took retirement. each one, had given valuable servic8 to the Centre. Alison our senior
administrator and Tracey have continued lo work hard dealing wilh our adminlstration and care of the buildlng.
Transport is one of our top priorities as It makes the Centre easlly available to Ihose who are handicapped or
disabled who are unable to use public transport or laxis. The bus station opposite has been c105ed all year, maklng
it harder for those more able to get to the Centre. Vve look forward to tt opening in May 2024.
Our plan for the coming year is to find a replacement caretaker to start ￿ April. To continue looking for a suitable
new bus to replace one bus when we have all Ihe p0551bllilles and quotes. We look fonNard to the year ahead.

The charlty had Income ft)r the year of £158,828 (2023.. £96,617>.
The charity had expenditure for the year lotaling £118.535 (2023: £96.601).
The charlty's investment assets showed net gains in the year of £38,420 (2023.. £22.76310ss>.
The charlly had unrestricted funds to cary lo￿ard of £842.606 (2023: £783,893) at 31 March 2024.
R8S8tves pollcy
The trustees are aware of the fortLtnate positlon of the charity In having a sl9nifi¢ant level of resources and are
aware of their responsibilities under the SORP to hold justifiable level of re8erves.
The trustees have consldered this matter and conclude that due to the voluntary nature of all ils Income, they are at
risk on incurring dèficits on a recurring basis. However they are aware that the current reserve5 of £842,606 are In
excess of that requlred to ensure the continuation of the Centre's activities in the short term. Accordingly ihe
Iruslees are looking at ways to utilise the reserves held, in a way that advance$ the charitable objectives, by
creallng designated funds for planned expenditure.
The trustees chose to designats £6.000 a year. towards the purchase of a new mlnl bus. At 31 March 2021 the
trustees have chosen to increase the annual designation to £12,000 and this fund now totals £72,000 8131 Marth
2024. Added to this the trustee3 have al80 chosen to designale a legacy of £27,063 received from thè late Donald
Short in the 2019120 year, towards the purchase of a minibus, it is the intention of the Irugtee5 thal thls new minibus
will have the name ol Donald Short inscribed on it. A further legacy of £78,531 was received In the 2023124 year
from Rosemary Mlller, a160 to be used for a new minil)us. and it is also the intentlon of the Iru$tees to inscribe
Rosemary Millerfs name on the new minl bus. The total designated funds for minibuses therefore total £177,594.
The trustees have chosen to designate funds toward the property renovation fund, and added £50,000 for a kitchen
revamp, this fund tolaled £180.000 at 31 March 2023, During the last year the kitchen renovaliong have been
completed. and so part of the deslgnated fund had been released. Leaving £120.847 as the balan¢e at 31 March
2024.
The trustees conslder, that with careful malntenance of the reserves of the charity, there will be sufficient resource5
lo ensure a conslstent quality of servlce delivery to Iho elderly and digabled of Calderdale for many more years to
Come,
Investment pollcy
The trustees have considered the m051 appropriate policy for investing funds and have concluded Ihe majority of the
centre's funds should be placed on deposit with reputable banks, whilst also utilising balanced investment products
lo increase investment income.
Structure, governance and managemènt
The charity was registered with the Charfty Commission on 20 F6bruary 1981 and is governed by its constitution
adopied 26 January 1981, and as amended 3 December 1981, 29 June 1998 and 23 October 2023.

The trustees meet at regular intervals to discuss, review and deal with ongoing affalrs of the Cenlrè. The trustees
are appointed and provided wlth tralning by the exisling irustees.
The day to day running and care for the Centre is Ihe responsibility of Christopher Peter the part.tlme caretaker.
The 8dministration of Ihe Centre is the responsibility of Alison Stevens, the part time senior administrator, a part
tlme admlnlstrator, Tracey Poskltt. The admlnistrators are also responsible for all the users of the Centre who are
key holders,
The cooking at Ihe Centre Is the ￿SponsIbl11ty of Susan Mitchell, the part tlme cook.

The trustees are responsible for preparing the Twstees, Report and the financial statements in accordance with
applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (Uniled Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting
Pracllce).
The law appllcable to charities in England and Wales requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each
financial year which give a true and fair vlew of the state of affairs of the charity and of the incoming resources and
appllcation of rèsources of the charity for that year.
In preparlng these financial Statements. the trustees are required to..
select suitable accounting polictes and then apply them consistenlly;
- observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP;
make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent:
state whether applicable accountlng standards have been followed. subject to any materlal departures disdoged
and explained In the financial statements,. and
prepare Ihe financial $tatemenls on the golng concern basis unless it18 Inapproprlate to presume that the charity
will continue in operation.
The trustees are responsible for keeplng sufficlent accounting records that discjose with reasonable accuracy at any
tlme the financ￿al position of the charlty and enable them to ensure that the financial slalements comply with the
Charities Act 2011, the Charity (Account5 and Reports) Regulations 2008 and Ihe provisions of the trust deed. They
are also responsible for safeguarding the a$sel3 of the charlty and hence for taklng reasonable steps for the

As the trustees of the charity you are responsible for the preparation of the finanual statements in accordance with
the requirements of Ihe Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act).
I report in respect of my examination of the charity's financial statements carried out under se¢tion 145 of the 2011
Act. In carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commi88ion
under section 145(51{b) of the 2011 Act.

Maurice Jagger Cenlre is a registered charity, number 511088, regislered in England and Wale5 wlth the
Charity Commisslon.
1.1 Accountlng conventlon
The financial statements have been prepared In accordance with the charity's Igovernlng do¢um6ntl, the
Charities Act 2011, FRS 102 "The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in Ihe UK and Republic of Ireland.
("FRS 102") and the Charities SORP "Accounting and Reporting by Charitie5.' Statement of Recommended
Practice applicable to charities preparlng their accounts in accordance with Ihe Financial Reporting Standard
applicable in th& UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102). (effective 1 January 2019). The charity 18 a Publlc
Benefit Entlty as defined by FRS 102.
The charity has taken advantage of the provisions in the SORP for charities not to prepar8 a Statement of
Cash Flows.
The financial statements have departed from the Charities (Accounls and Reports) Regulation8 2008 only to
the extent required to provide a INe and falr view. This departure has Involved followlng the Statemenl of
Recommended Piactlce for charities applying FRS 102 rather than the veTslon of the Statement of
Recommended Pra￿l¢e whlch is referred to in the Regulations but which ha8 since been wllhdrawn.
The financlal slalements are prepared in sterling, thich is the functional currency of the charity. Monetary
amounts in these financial statements are rounded to the nearest £.
The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convenllon, Imodified to include tha
revaluation of freehold properties and to indude investment propertie8 and certaln financial instruments at falr
valuel. The prlncipal aC￿unting policie8 adopted are set out below.
1.2 Golng ¢on¢em
At the time of approving the finanaal statements, the trustees have a reasonable expectation that th8 charity
has adequate resources to continue In operational exlstence for the foreseeable fijlure. Thus the trustees
conllnue to adopt the going concern ba8is of accountin9 in preparing the [￿nanCIal statements,
1.3 Charltable funds
Unrestricted fund$ are available for use at the discretion of the Irustees In furtherance of thelr charitable
objectives.
Restricted funds are subject to Specific conditlons by donors or grantors as to how they may be used. The
purposes and uses of the restricted funds are sel out in the notes to the financial statements.
Endowment funds are subject to specific conditions by donors that the capltal must be maintained by the
charlty.
1.4 Income
Income is recognised when the charity is legally entitled to it after any performance conditions have been met,
the amounts can be measured reliably, and it is probable that income will be received.
Cash donatlons are recognised on receipt. Olher donations are recogntsed once the charity has been notified
of the donatlon, unless performance conditions require deferral of the amount. Income tax recoverable in
relation to donations received under Glft Ald or deeds of covenant is recognised at the time of the donation.
Legacies are recognised on receipt or othenNise rf the charity has been notified of an impending distribution,
the amount is known, and receipt is expected. If the amount is not known, the legacy Is Ireated as
ontingent asseL

1.6 Expendlture
Expendlture is recognised once there is a legal or constructive obligation lo transfer economio beneflt to a
third party, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefit$ wlll be required in settlement, and the amount of

shared costs, Induding support costs involved In undertaking each activity. Direct costs attributable to a single

1.7 Flxed asset Inve6tments
Fixed asset investments are Inltially measured at transaction price excludlng transaction cost8, and are

In¢omel(expendilure) for the year. Transaction costs are expensed as incurred.
1.8 Impalrnent of fixed assets
At each reporting end date, the charity reviews the cairying amount$ of Ils tangible assels to determine
whelher there is any indication that those assets have suffered an impairment loss. If any such indicallon
exists, the recoverable amount of the asset is estimated in order to determine the extent of the impairment
loss (if any).
1.9 Cash and cash equivalents
Cash and cash equivalents indude cash in hand, depo$its held at call wlth banks, other short-term Ilquid
nvestments with original maturities of three months or less. and bank overdrafts. Bank overdrafts are shown
wlthin borrowings in current liabilities.
1.10 Financlal Inslruments
The Charity has elected to apply the provlslons of Section 11 '8asi¢ Financial Instruments, and Section 12
'other Finanual Instruments Issues, of FRS 102 to all of it5 financial instruments.
Financlal Instruments are recognised in the charity'5 balaneR sheet when the charity becomes party to the
contractual provislons of the instrument.
Financial assets and liabilities are offset, with the net amounls presented in the financial statements. when
there is a legally enforceable right to set off the recognised amounls and there is an intention to settle on a net
basis or to realise the asset and settle the liability simultaneously.

within one year are not amortised.

Trade credltor$ are obligations to pay for goods or seNi¢es that have been aewuired in the ordinary course of

Financial Ilabllltles are derecognised when Ihe charity's contraclual obligations expire or are dlstharged or
cancelled.
1.11 Employeo benèfll8
The cost of any unused holiday entitlement is recognised in the perlod In which the employee's $ervl¢es are
received.
Tennlnallon benefits are recognised Immediately as an expense when the charity Is demongtT8bly commltted
to terminate the employment of an employee or to provide temilnalion benefits.
Crltlcal accountlng e$tlmate$ and Judgemfyntg
In the appllcation of the charity's accounling pollcies, the trustees are requlred to make judgements, estlmates
and 88sumptions about the carrying amount of assets and liabilities Ihat are not readily apparent from other
sources. The estimates and asso￿ated assumptions are based on historical experfence and other factors that
are considered to be relevant. Actual results may differ from these estsmates.
The estlmates and underlylng assumptions are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Revisions to accounting
estimates are recognised in the period in which the estimate is revised where the revision affects only Ihat
pèriod, or in the period of the revision and future persods where Ihe revision affects both current and future
perfods.
