In accordance with Charity Commission guidance, charities that receive more than £25,000 a year are required by law to submit an annual report. The Monday Night Group follows best practice and has produced this Trustees’ Annual Report.
The Trustees continue to review all Charity Commission guidance pertaining to the management of The Monday Night Group.
Monday Night Group is governed by a constitution which was developed in 2007.
The charity, once again, met its objectives as outlined in our constitution. The charity operates with due regard to its public benefit obligations as outlined by the Charities Commission. It is confident and assured that it continues to meet these requirements, managed via our constitution, which ensures the money we raise at our pantomime and via other grants and donations is awarded in line with the expectations laid out with in it.
The charity is extremely reliant on its army of volunteers who support and ensure the success of our annual pantomime. We may only see these volunteers once a year but their input and support is vital to our success. We welcome anyone to support and assist at some or all of our performances.
Donations from our profits are awarded using the following criteria. The Trustees fully endorse these principles and determine our donations with a robust alignment to these statements:
-
To allocate only to local organisations or national organisations with a local base where the Charity can be assured that the grants will remain locally for the sole use of local persons
-
To allocate to schools for children with special needs and not for mainstream schools for general needs
-
To not make grants where the funds are required for building or repair work
-
To not make grants for a commercial venture
-
To not make grants to an animal charity
-
To not make grants to individual persons
Achievements and Performance
The Group once again performed a successful pantomime – Cinderella in January 2025 at the Civic Hall in Stourport.
Ticket sales continue to do well though this is a constant challenge for our charity in maintaining an affordable price against increased costs and a desire to maximise donations.
Membership of the group remains strong with new and younger members recruited and now staying on. This will help the group continue to perform pantomime well into the future.
This year’s ticket sales were now made up entirely of online sales using Ticketsource.
We have remained with the online method for submitting donation requests, allowing the Trustees to assess the requests beforehand and then come together to endorse the final decisions.
Our annual presentation evening was a very successful evening and enjoyed by all. A total of 84 local groups in the Worcestershire and Wyre Forest area attended and we were able to award a total of £30,300.
Planning is now underway for 2026.
Governance remains strong with monthly group meetings open to all running February to October including our AGM in August. The Trustees continue to ensure the group remains viable, lawful and financially sound.
We have no concerns at this stage about the viability of the charity.
Looking Forward
We are confident that the charity has a strong financial footing to enable it to meet the challenges going forward and what ever decisions are made, we will ensure we can deliver a successful pantomime and raise large amounts of money for our local community.
– Chairman’s Report 2024 2025
To the Members and Friends of Monday Night Group (MNG),
As Chairman, it is my annual pleasure (and obligation!) to present this report at our AGM. For over a decade, I have penned this reflection, and each year it’s packed — with heartfelt thanks, proud achievements, and just a sprinkle of drama offstage, of course.
Cinderella 2025 - A Panto That Really Put Out……the Laughs
This year, MNG once again slipped into its glass slippers and strutted onto the stage with Cinderella 2025. Our annual pantomime remains the jewel in our fundraising crown, family-friendly, affordable, and just the right amount of outrageousness and suggestive winks. With a cast that could charm Buttons ’ Pecker out of retirement and a crew that knows how to make magic happen.
We delivered a show that was both dazzling and profitable. We appointed a Director, Musical Director, Producer, Writer, and a production team that pulled things together tighter than a corset on opening night. Tightly stitched together with more sass than Cinderella’s Shein ballgown, and just enough tension to keep things interesting. Sleep was optional, boa and corsets were mandatory, and the spotlight never shone on anything less than fabulous.
Together with our backstage heroes, FOH charmers, and technical wizards, we worked countless unpaid hours. The show was a glittery triumph, with just enough thigh-slapping and suggestive winks to keep the grown-ups entertained while the kids wondered why everyone was giggling so much.
Financial Highlights - The Fairy Godmother Was Generous
— The economy may have been pinched, but our ticket pricing held firm like Prince Charming’s shorts after a leg sesh. We tested our new five-year ticket pricing Strategy, and guess what? The audience did not bat an eyelid and came in droves, clearly drawn to our sparkle, sass, and the promise of a good time that did not require a safe word.
And yes, we still have ice cream left over- As Lucinda said to Lucinda “ It’s hard, cold, and waiting patiently for someone to take it home and give it the attention it deserves. It’s good until November 2026, but frankly, it’s begging to be licked ” sooner.
Anyway, here’s the difference from this year’s income and expenditure compared to last year:
🎟 Ticket Sales £2,845.45
🪣 Bucket Donations £402.16
Ice Cream Sales -£29.54
Confectionery Sales -£109.48
Tea & Coffee Sales £187.20
Total Income £53,387.90
Net Profit £41,107.47
Reduced Outgoings -£515.99 compared to 2024
— We were £3,739.12 up from last year proof that a little fairy dust, a lot of elbow
grease, and a well-timed pelvic thrust and dig go a long way. So well done to everyone on this achievement.
– A Toast to Helen Our Financial Fairy with a Firm Grip
Helen continues to work her magic behind the scenes, squeezing every penny until it squeals and making sure our finances stay like Dame Durdle’s bosom - upright — and well-behaved. She is silent but deadly like a well-timed fart in a quiet dressing room (No names mentioned), and we would not have it any other way.
Helen ensures our books are balanced and our bank account does not turn into a pumpkin
at midnight. Helen, we raise our calculators to you once again.
– Castmaster Returns Lights, Camera, Mischief
Rich is back, and Castmaster 2026 is already shaping up to be more outrageous than a Dame in fishnets. Planning is underway, cameras are rolling, and mischief is guaranteed.
Let us just say, if you thought the panto was wild, wait until you see what happens when Rich and the team are unleashed again. I wonder if one task will be “How to incorporate a tea break into a rehearsal?”
One can only hope- for the cast’s sake!
– 🛠 Trustees The real behind the scenes magic
Our Trustees have kept things legal, compliant, and occasionally sane. No critical — incidents this year unless you count someone complaining about having too much Pecker (and really, is there such a thing?)
— Our Hartlebury Hut lease was renewed 12 months into the year, due to
management company staff issues. But let us be honest, we are irresistible as tenants.
Massive thanks to Bev, Helen, Alex, Rachel, Richard, and Maria (who survived her first year as Secretary). You are the backbone of MNG, and we could not do it without you.
– Production Team The Dream Makers
— To our Production team consisting of members stepping up into the many creative roles we have. The musical maestros Sally and Simon, Dave the Drummer, and Prompts Carey and Phill (who kept the beat and the audience flowing like a well-oiled panto dame), and every single cast member, crew member, costume — wrangler, and creative genius thank you.
You went the extra mile, raised the bar, the curtain, and a few eyebrows. And you did it all with style, no tea breaks, and just a hint of scandal along the way.
– Giveaway Night The Big Finish
After the panto, we gathered to review donation requests and awarded £30,300 to
84 local groups. Huge thanks to Helen and Bewdley Pines Golf Club for hosting us.
Lu and Lav spent their night teeing the jokes up and swinging wood and smashing their balls out onto the fairway.
It was a night of laughter, generosity, and one lucky soul walking away with three — bookends because why settle for one when you can have a matching set and a spare for the bedroom?
To those who read the requests, donned costumes, sold raffle tickets, and
— entertained your efforts are the heartbeat of MNG.
If you ever wonder, “Why am I doing this? ” just remember that night and that’s your answer.
– Trustee Transitions A Fond Farewell
— Rachel steps down as Trustee thank you for your time and energy as a Trustee. My own three-year term as Chairman ends, as does Helen’s two-year term as Treasurer on this rotation. However, we are both re-standing for a further term if you will have us.
We have new trustee nominees ready to step up, and I am confident MNG is in safe — hands though I do recommend gloves.
A Look forward
— Looking forward, buckle up your corsets and brace your bloomers because next
Year’s “Puss in Boots” is coming to town like a catwalk queen on heat, and it is guaranteed to leave the audience purring louder than a milkman’s morning delivery!
Dame Miller is back. With her baps rising and bloomers clinging on like last night’s regrets. She has got a cream horn bigger than a patisserie caught in a love triangle, and she is serving it up with a wink that could curdle custard.
Our hero feline Puss- he’s not just chasing tail, he’s practically drowning in it. He’s got nine lives and no boundaries but leads the charge over evil.
— And then there’s Evil Weevil the uninvited guest in Dame Miller’s pantry and burrowing deeper than a gossip in a gin-fuelled hen night. Let’s just say he’s — wriggling into places he doesn’t belong and Dame Miller’s not having any of it. The slippery little pest who’s always popping up where he’s not wanted, burrowing deep and causing all kinds of itchiness Dame Miller would much rather scratch in private.
— This panto’s bursting at the seams quite literally, in Dame Miller’s case, whose frock is holding on by sheer force of will and a prayer to the patron saint of elastic. With double entendres flying faster than Puss’s sword, and more innuendo than you can shake a baguette at, this is one fairy tale that’s definitely not. So fluff your puss, polish your boots, and prepare to get your blushes well and truly earned.
– Final Thanks from me.
— To every member, friend, business, organisation, and council who supports us thank you. Whether you gave time, money, food, or just a knowing nod during tech week, you helped make the magic happen.
To those who supported me during my term as Chairman: I hope I’ve kept the seat warm, a ship steady, and the jokes just on the right side of inappropriate.
It’s been an honour once again.
— To our audiences thank you for laughing, clapping, and donating. You have help us turn glitter into gold, sequins into smiles, and Pecker into profit. From me to you, old friends and new, thank you. Thank you for the laughs, the love, and the lingering scent of glitter in places glitter should never be. I’ve loved every minute and if you didn’t, well, you clearly weren’t close enough to my pecker.
Sam Maher
MNG chairman
Reserves Policy
The Group maintains a modest, but not excessive reserves balance which equates to, at least, the annual running costs of the Charity, on the assumption that the pantomime performances are not able to procees for any reason. This allows all costs to be met such as leases, electricity, venue hire and any costs incurred to perform pantomime.
In the event of not being able to deliver a pantomime for a considerable period or if the group could not continue, reserves would cover remaining lease costs of our storage unit.
We review our reserves annually and this allows us to adjust accordingly based on forecast or actual changes in pantomime expenses.
