## **ALLERDALE DISABILITY ASSOCIATION ANNUAL REPORT 1[ST] APRIL 2022 – 31[ST] MARCH 2023** ## **1. OBJECTIVE** To promote the welfare of disabled people within Allerdale and West Coast District. ## **4. SUMMARY OF MAIN ACTIVITIES** In delivering our activities this year the trustees have had regard to Charity Commission guidance on public benefit. The focus of our activities remains to provide a range of quality services to disabled people, their families and carers, enabling greater accessibility and integration. We promote equality and social justice through information and empowerment. - Information service gives advice on any disability related issue to people with disabilities, their families and carers - Assisting people to complete welfare benefit forms. - Drop in sessions for physically disabled adults and their carers. ## **5. ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE** Our Welfare Benefits Service delivers advice and support to people with any disability from older people to the parents of infants and their families and carers, regardless of whether due to age, physical, mental, or learning disability. This specialist service is tailored and bespoke to the needs of each individual and guides them from application through medicals, appeals and 1st tier tribunals. There is no other tailored advice service offering this in the area. People with disabilities face financial and social marginalisation, the need to get support without facing barriers whether physical or attitudinal is paramount. Our services mean they are not only better off financially but the detrimental effects of money worries and loneliness are reduced and they have improved well-being and quality of life. This financial year we have responded to 1333 enquiries and helped clients to generate income by claiming benefit entitlements of £10.3 million. This is an absolutely amazing 40.8% annual increase in monitory benefit to our clients. All our services are only possible due to the dedication and knowledge of our staff and the huge contribution made by volunteers who give their time, skills and commitment freely. Our sincere thanks to all of them. ## **6. PLANS FOR FUTURE PERIODS** Our plans are well underway for us to move our location within the Community Centre to the old library. This will offer us a much larger area, with the scope to offer more to our members and a better service to everyone. The premises have needed some major works to make it fit for purpose and we are delighted to have had the support of the Cumbria Exchange to access professional advice we needed, and the offer of donated labour. This labour came from OneAim, every member of the trades teams that have carried out work for us have been exemplary. We could not have achieved this without their support. Our planned official opening is on 13[th] July 2023 and we have been very fortunate in getting Michael Owen to agree to perform the ribbon cutting. Although the welfare benefits service is constantly busy, we plan to use the grand opening as a starting point to publicise and generate increased usage of our social activities for adults with physical disabilities. Our plans are as membership builds to increase the number of days that activities take place on. We envisage our day to be designed around crafts that can be produced and sold once a year at a craft fair to generate additional funds for the organisation. We will continue to work with the Sellafield’s Bedrock Basics programme that has been hugely beneficial to us, providing support advice and priceless training to the organisation. ## **7. FINANCIAL REVIEW** Total funds carried forward on 31[st] March 2023 were £20,209.32 Our big news this year was that we secured a grant £103,542.00of from the National Lottery Community Fund. This will enable us to deliver all our services up to July 2024. We are extremely grateful to the National Lottery Community Fund and their staff who supported us during the application process. Thanks to Allerdale Borough Council for their grants and continued support to the organisation. Thanks also to Cumbria Community Foundation and the Proven Family Trust. Fund raising and obtaining grants for the future must continue to be a high priority to ensure continuation of our services to the disabled community. ## **M.B. I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. **Independent examiner's statement** I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination, which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect: - the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or - the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or - the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
