We provide facilities for the whole community. The village hall is available to anybody to hire. Individuals and groups can book the hall for personal use e.g. parties and meetings. Weekly activities include coffee mornings which are run by local community groups, exercise classes, dance classes, choir and band practice sessions. The local school also uses the hall on a routine basis to deliver indoor PE sessions and for larger functions which the school cannot accommodate itself such as concerts and Christmas plays.

During 2024, the hall secured a £20,000 grant from Northern Power Grid which enabled the installation of solar panels to the roof of the hall and batteries. This has subsequently reduced the environmental impact of the hall as well as its running costs which will, in turn, support the hall in continuing to be an affordable and accessible community facility for all.

Financial Review

Cash at the bank at the end of 2024 stood at £33,560.79 - much of which has been ringfenced to fund the next stage of the hall’s refurbishment - namely a new heating system and asbestos removal.

The charity’s most regular and reliable source of funds is receipts from hire of the hall and these are set to cover day-to-day running expenses of the charity. Any grants secured are used to improve the village hall for users. The village hall Trustees also regularly organise and run various fundraising events such as race nights, carol singing and treasure hunts which all provide further income for the hall.

Future Plans

The Trustees hope to arrange the installation of a new heating system to the village hall in the coming year. This will replace the existing outdated and inefficient system and, as well as providing a warm and welcoming venue, it will work alongside the solar panels to further reduce environmental impact and running costs. Within this same timeframe, the Trustees plan to arrange the removal of some asbestos from the hall which is a necessary, and costly, undertaking.

Castleton Village Hall Financial Report

Castleton Village Hall had a good year in 2024 with surplus of income over expenditure of £ 11,595.63. Grant income of £29,000 enabled a kitchen upgrade and installation of solar panels, which will help to mitigate high electricity costs in the future when final electrical work is completed. A closing balance of £33,560.79 will enable further work towards bringing the hall up to modern standards.
