Knowle & Dorridge Lions Club Report and accounts for year ended 30 June 2024 Introduction This report and accounts prepared by the Knowle & Dorridge Lions Club continues our policy to give the reader a better understanding of the activities of the charity and the manner in which the funds, collected from various events held during the year, are distributed. It combines information for the year ended 30 June 2024 with comparison figures for the previous year. Trustees and officers The Trustees for the year were the President - Bob Thurtle, Vice President - Tony Gee, the Secretary ~ Adrian Harris and Treasurer - Ian Gedge. Each year the club selects three of its members to fill the roles of President, Secretary and Treasurer and in turn they become the Trustees for the year along with the Vice President & Immediate Past President. An existing officer can serve for more than one year or may serve again in the future in the same or an alternative role. There is no limit on the period an officer may serve although all members are encouraged to serve as an officer of the Club. The officers for 2024/25 will be, President - Richard Buckley, Vice President - Tony Gee, Secretary - Adrian Harris, Treasurer - lan Gedge and Immediate Past President Bob Thurtle. Bankers During the year, the Club maintained bank accounts with the following provider: CAF Bank Limited 25 Kings Hill Avenue Kings Hill West Malling ME19 4JQ There were two accounts with CAF Bank Limited, one current account and one deposit account. The Club also had a separate administration account which was closed during the year and the balance transferred to the Charity account. The Club will maintain a record within the Charity accounts of the transactions that previously were shown in the separate administration account. The reason for this change is the high cost of bank charges. The report and accounts include this introduction, a report from the President - Bob Thurtle, and the accounting figures themselves. Following the financial statements are the accounting policies and notes to the accounts. The final page includes a useful link to the Knowle and Dorridge Lions Club website, where details of the Lions meetings and the planned programme for the following year can be found. Ian Gedge Treasurer
Knowle & Dorridge Lions Club Report and accounts for year ended 30 June 2024 Report of the President We Serve As a Lions Club we have continued to do what we have always done since we were established in 1976 and that is to Serve Our Community. About Us - We are a local Club of twelve members supported by volunteer KDL Friends who together endeavour to serve the needs of our immediate community and try to make a positive difference. We are involved in raising funds for good causes, organising local events and providing direct support for individuals or groups in the community. Like all Lions Clubs every penny and pound collected goes direct to good causes as administration costs are funded by our members. Throughout the year our Community Services Committee reviews funding requests and opportunities after which their recommendations are considered and confirmed by all members. Our funds go to individuals, local and national charities, local causes and groups, supporting local youth and elderly as well as making donations for Lions international disaster relief through Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF). Fund Raising - We are fortunate in that we are located in a reasonably affluent area where despite the challenging economic climate our public, sponsors and businesses have continued to support us most generously because without them our fund-raising events could not take place. Our annual major fund-raising event is our Knowle Fun Run which in its 39th year had over 1,200 runners taking part in the 5km & Iokm courses. Immediately after Christmas we held our Festive Walk in the countryside around Dorridge. Then at Easter we joined forces with Age UK Solihull to sell raffle tickets for Easter Eggs at the Black Boy. In addition we catered for our younger residents with three free to enter Easter Egg Hunt competitions. Socials - Our New Members Wanted posters probably says a great deal about Knowle and Dorridge Lions as it reads'it is as much fun as it is hard work" We do try and have fun and have enjoyed many socials with our fellow Lions and partners. Milestones Ahead - Not far over the horizon we will have our 40th Knowle Fun Run in 2025 and we will celebrate our 50th Birthday in 2026. Challenges Ahead - Notwithstanding the success we have had this year we recognise that if we are going to continue to serve our community, we must attract new members and volunteers. As I pass the Presidency to Lion Richard Buckley recruitment and retention will be a major objective in the coming twelve months. Thanks - Finally I wish to thank sincerely my Officers and fellow Lions for the tremendous support I have Ceived. Bob Thurtle President 2023/2024
Knowle & Dorridge Lions Club Report and accounts for year ended 30 June 2024 Independent examiner's report to the trustees of Knowle and Dorridge Lions Club I report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 30 June 2024, which are set out on pages 5 to 8. Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to: examine the accounts under settion 145 of the 2011 Art; to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145{5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. Basis of independent examlner's report My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Direttions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair view, and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below. Independent examSner's statement In connettion wlth my examination, no matter has come to my attention: (l) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements: to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Att; and to prepare accounts which accord with the accountlng records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act have not been met; or (2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached. i./iJ John Southwick Chartered Accountant 2024
