Annual Report
2022
In 2022 we finally started to see how the Covid-19 restrictions could allow units to commence returning to a new normal guiding, with many in the county now starting to fully embrace going on camping and residential adventures, along with cinema and activity day trips.
It was encouraging to see an upward trend of young members continue in 2022, despite the more challenging situation of a reduction in volunteers. We recognise that this is largely down to many volunteers taking on multiple roles and we are thankful for the continued effort that each and everyone of you shows to ensure our young members thrive.
Face to face trainings took place once more and included; residential, new leaders training, first aid and safe space.
In June many across the county enjoyed celebrating the Queen’s’ jubilee. It was fantastic to see all the varying activities taking place. Like the rest of the country and the world we were sad to learn of her passing in September. The Queen was a former guide and ranger and our long standing patron so this was a great loss to our guiding world.
We had hoped that Wysholme would open its doors once again in 2022. Unfortunately this was not to be as once the repair work was completed following the accident in late 2021 it was identified that further maintenance work was required. We are now hopeful the doors will open in 2023.
In the continued absence of a County Commissioner the County Executive ensured the essentials were maintained during most of 2022 until a working group was formed to look at the dynamics of the county and how a team structure could provide the support that the county needed. From this Deborah, Gillian, Sally & Claire were appointed as County Commissioners in November 2022.
The county was split into the following work streams:-
-
Business – Sally
-
Outdoor Adventures & Events – Claire
-
Adult Leadership & Support – Deborah
-
Commissioners’ Support – Gillian
Together with the support of the Division Commissioners and County Advisors we are really looking forward to 2023, as we celebrate the county turning “50” and continue to support girlguiding in West Yorkshire South.

THE GUIDE ASSOCIATION WEST YORKSHIRE SOUTH
REPORT AND ACCOUNTS
YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2022
Charity Number - 509670
1
' Independent Examiner s Report to The Guide Association - West Yorkshire South
I report on the accounts of the Association for the year ended 31 December 2022 which are set out on pages 2 to 5.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The Association's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The Association considers that an audit is not required for this year (under section 43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 (the 1993 Act) and that an independent examination is required.
It is my responsibility to:
-
examine the accounts (under section 43(3)(a) of the 1993 Act);
-
follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity
-
Commissioners (under section 43(7)(b) of the 1993 Act); and
-
state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner's report
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the Association and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
Independent examiner's report
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention: 1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements
-
to keep accounting records in accordance with section 41 of the 1993 Act; and
-
to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with the accounting requirements of the 1993 Act have not been met; or
-
2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding
-
of the accounts to be reached.
